Illegal number plates - does more money mean less sense ?

Featured Replies

Saw a bad example this morning (about 10 mins ago)

C10 TTB on a black VW golf GTI with the darkest tints all round I have ever seen, not only had the letters had been arranged to read C10T TB, but the C had had is corners squared off and a screw placed in the middle to make it look like an E. Spotted on the M25 between J19, exited at the same junction as me and travelled on the A412 towards Rickmansworth.

Likewise, saw a Passat recently with what was presumably R10 KVW, which had been split into R10K VW, with a white screw head on the outside line of the 0 to make it look like a C.

Wonder if any likely lad out there with a black marker pen could add a strategically place P :D

mines G4FYS spaced as is LOL in the correct font , i enjoy been a **** least no one no's my cars old shed .

all good moaning about the law ! suppose no one on here breaks the law speeding etc,

Yesterday (10/10/09), whilst in Bolton I saw a guy driving a Audi A4 Convertible with the reg layed out like this B0LTN, but a closer look it read B9LTN

On the M6 the other day, I saw a gold Range Rover with the plate AR51 OLE - all correctly spaced and lettered but made me laugh anyway.

Surely the idea of a car's registration plate is to make easily identifiable.

If I witnessed the above car in a hit and run, for example, then I can remember W3 Ian F, easier than W31 ANF

But I do agree, it's a sh!te attempt at a personal plate.

Whilst I disagree with misrepresented plates the government make way more money selling these plates then they would from fining the owners. The DVLA ask alot of money for certain plates that only mean anything if misrepresented anyone who is pulled for misrepresenting a plate should be given the option of a full refund for the number from the DVLA but that's never going to happen.

The DVLA markets these plates specifically because they *could* be made to look like words, and then fines people for doing just that, because it is illegal. Is that not some form of aiding and abetting?

No. They don't make people buy them, and they don't encourage people to space them illegally, or put screwheads in certain places. That's the buyer's choice.

Gunshops sell guns, knife shops sell knives - it doesn't make them legal to carry about on the street :rotz:

To add more fuel to the fire, there are a few plonkers near here who think fitting black plates with silver lettering is OK on modern cars.

I quite often see a Honda Jazz with a black personalised plate on it :finger:
