Illegal number plates - does more money mean less sense ?

what about de badged vrs's with vrs plates? Would that elevate me from being an idiot?

Gary - try placing these words in the correct order :-

If you can - you've got your answer

If you can't - you've got your answer

:P (It's a joke !)

Back to the previous poster - I don't have a problem with anyone who by choice decides to pay for a personal plate or a vehicle specific plate.

But if you overstep the mark and decide to set your plate up contrary to road traffic regulations, then you face paying the penalty. It's the law.

For a previous poster to blame the DVLA for making money out of selling numbers which make words if you space the numbers/letters badly, that's utter tosh. It's the purchaser who should find out before he/she buys it whether or not their intended plate will be legal or not - not to bleat after the event that they can't have their own way and throw their dummy out of the pram.

IMO :o

I agree to an extent but for them to charge more for a plate that needs to be misrepresented to make sense is taking the pee. An example is they charged more for S11 ARK than S1 ARK normally the latter would be more expensive as it's a 1, but they know that the 11 can be made into a H and thus make a word so ask more in the first place. I'm not condoning mis-spacing or bolt placement and I have already said I don't like it however it's double standards from the government and they are effectively encouraging it.

Maybe that's not the best example, but even if spaced normally I could tell that it's meant to say Shark, without spacing them wrongly and putting a black screw head where it shouldn't be.

Hope Ben's not reading this - but then he's already got his own plate - legally spaced I hasten to add

At the end of the day its a business who are looking to make profits, and the more profits the better.

Although i don't agree with plates costing more because of one number or letter, if people are prepared to pay for them...?

I have had 2 plates over the years. The first one was specific to the car i owned, and i had to let it go with the car. Money wasted.

My current plate has numbers and letters that mean something to me, look personal and don't need to be illegaly spaced to look different. They were also the cheapest you could buy direct from DVLA, so for me it was worth the money.

right

dude this isn't an opinion, and its not a line i usually take with noobs but please stop the text nonesense or p1ss off,i am one of 000's on here who just don't want to read it,mods either ban this guy or ban me but ffs stop the text speak before its rife on here.

To be fair to the guy I don't think it is text talk (i've seen far worse) he's just not the world's best when it comes to spelling, grammar and punctuation. I can also see why he would think that Brimma is trying to be clever as he went through one of his posts and corrected it which is a pretty low thing to do. I wouldn't have a conversation with a stranger and correct their sentences, it's just plain rude.

Cheers Eddy, but if I really wanted to be rude, I'd be rude. Thanks for doing it for me Gary - I owe you one

I apologise for having the ability to spell correctly - but I'm sorry - that's not clever, lots of people can, not just me.

Maybe that's the problem of the written word against the spoken word - you can speak without being able to spell.

I'll be changing my sig soon to read - "How low can you go"

and i am posting a genuine apology if this guy just genuinly can't spell,i'm no grammatical wizard myself but i allways try to post in plain english,i think there is even a way to spellcheck, but could be wrong.

He does state in a previous post that he is deliberatly 'txt spkn' so any posts after that should be read in the same format.

Personally i've skipped over his replies as it takes me far longer to read his version of how to spell.

The irony is you made gramatical errors in your reply when you first pointed out his mistakes.

That was after Brimma had already ripped his post apart so he was probably just trying to save face.

Oops - spelling!

What a silly thread this has become!

I agree with your sentiment of giving a warning about proper behaviour on the forum but that is no reason for foul language, even hidden behind your personal version of txt spk.

Even more irony - there are two 'm's in grammatical :P

I agree - picking up on spelling errors wasn't what the original thread was about - but I still stand by my reasons for the original posting ie people deserve to get tickets for illegal plates. NOT that I am going to dob them in as suggested by the text speaker :)

then i also apologise for my language:O

That was intentional to see what you would do and you didn't disappoint. :)

I knew that you knew I'd do that (assuming you did it on purpose anyway, and I'm not convinced of that)

I'm glad someone is still able to read, Chris :thumbup:

I'm a bit lost as to who 'al' is in all this, and has he got a personal plate ? (see post 98)

At least he managed to get the spelling and punctuation correct on the first 7 words.

This is boring now.

I'm sure the forum rules say something about text speak, and I still don't agree with the point made about complaining about misrepresented plates being a waste of time. Some might be easy to read what they should be, but many are not and if you let some go you set a bad precident.

Now please FFS get over it and either stop with the text speak or the spelling.
