Best reasonably priced 16" tyres

Featured Replies

Looking to replace my tyres on my 2003 comfort. They have 205/55/16's. I assume 205/60/16 Michelin PRIMACYwill do fine? My annual milage is 5-6k. Was hoping to get hold of some second hand Solids however havent suceeded so thought might as well sort the tyres out at least at they are boarder line.

I have just paid £68.94 (fully fitted/ balanced etc) for Dunlop SP Sports from Elite

The last pair were on the front of the car for 20K and still had about 1mm of tread above the wear bars remaining.

If you fit 60 series tyres on then the speedo will read slower than you are going.

i guess i should stick with the 55 series then. just thought the extra 5 will fill the arches by a bit. didnt want to lower the car as i dont want to comprimise the comfort ride. Also lowering costs mega bucks too.

Elite is 15min drives from me so i will check them out. The michelins were gonna be from costcos as i have read they do the cheapest michelins.

Well I can advise you on what not to fit.....

Bridgestones, a fav of mine but not on the Superb, wore the front's in 8k and rears in 20k

Wanli, these wear real well and are cheap, but they make the car sound like it needs 4 wheel bearings and they drone hard at certain speeds, when they were being balanced I noticed the tread pattern looked buckled in effect, never again.

Firestone, sadly I got a nail in the wrong part of the tyre but it seemed a good all round tyre.

Pirelli 6000, this is what I will put on all round next, the only one I had lasted well and gave good performance all round

Other's I've not used on the car but have had good results from on others are Hankook and Klieber.hth.

i purchased dunlop spt fast response 205 55 r16....the walls of the tyre are stiffer, eliminating body roll to quite a degree when going round corners....overall, the response on turning quickly is much improved compared to my last set of tyres, and the rubber compound on the tyre is much harder compared to the softer cheaper brands...so im hoping these will last a lot longer....but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for....ive done cheap and in the end it wasnt worth it....hope this helps

Michelin are good but are expensive.

They cover high mileage, if your not doing many miles may be worth looking elsewhere. such as Good Year. Wouldn't touch Dunlop never liked them at all.

this may help:

"the walls of the tyre are stiffer, eliminating body roll to quite a degree when going round corners"

I don't understand that - would have thought less give in the tyres sidewall would mean more forces transferred to the suspension?

I'd recommend CDrive from Yokohama

Stick with the 55s, a 60 profile tyre of the same width will fill the arches better, but will also introduce quiet a large speedo error which could lead to unexpected speeding tickets, especially at motorway speeds as the faster you go the greater the error.

If Skodanut was commenting on the Dunlop Sport with "ZR" bit written on the tyre then I agree that these tyres feel a lot more "sporty" than my factory fit NCT Tourers or the current Michelin Primacys. They (Dunlop SP Sport) might have harder rubber but they gave me no trouble in the winter, I might have a 4Motion but even it will suffer a bit if tyre grip is reduced in ice and snow.

I have to say having had a few cars with P6000 I'd never let them near a car I owned.
