Downloading ruining the musc/film industry????

Featured Replies

Just reading the latest NME and the first story was about illegal file sharing. I do it and will freely admit it. But I do not think I am destroying the music industry etc as if I really like an album I will buy it. Same as if I watch a dodgy copy of a film, if I enjoyed it I will goto the cinema and watch it(or buy it on dvd)!!! If not I will think thank god I didn't spend my hard earned on this dross. Same as if I rent a film out and burn a copy I have still paid to watch it, I have just kept a copy for viewing at another time. Lets be honest people have been copying music for donkeys years : microphones up against the radio speakers, copying your mates LP's/tapes/cd's so how does it differ???? Ok the cheeky gits who make money out of selling it on should be penalised, but not some 12 year old kid who's downloaded a few songs!!!!! The music industry has always made money and always will I can't see how file sharing is gonna kill it, in my opinion it will help it. I have discovered new bands via file sharing and do you know what I am gonna pay my money to go watch them!!! So if I am a so called pirate I consider myself a some weird Robin Hood as I rob them then give it them back via other means.

I have a few mates in signed bands and their attitude - not really arsed.

That seems to be the general consensus with most groups(except Metallica :D the ******$) but the greedy gits THAT MEANS YOU PETE WATERMAN!!!!!!!!! are clearly not happy with the millions they make!!!

you may think that, but do you realise that piracy is a major fund raiser for numerous terrorist organisations?

The 80's..

"Home taping is killing music"

The 90's

"Home CD burning is killing music"

Today..

"P2P is killing music & film production"

Anyone see a pattern here ;)

And the ginger muppet Mr Yorke.

Thats mostly a scare tactic used by the record industry , and doesn't really apply in the uk.

Certainly they aren't making any money off me downloading a few tracks off Kazaa , and all the DVDs that are for sale at car boot sales are copied at home by pikey scum on their home PCs

Where organised crime is involved is in factories making copies that are passed off as originals

gotta point there zoidberg, my comment was just in passing though and not meant to incriminate you with the ira or whatever so appologies

:cop1:

Easiest way to kill off piracy is to drop the prices of albums and films. If I can go to a comoputer fair and buy 100 good quality cd,s for

Yes Kentish totally agree with you. The problem is the fact that 1. They haven't even embraced legal file sharing, and 2. The grossy overpaid contracts to so called 'stars' and record producers. Give them a decent amount as a contract and reduce the CD's to a low price then we will see more CD sales. They lets not forget are the ones who created the

TBH I dont even think the recording artists get that much of the cut really.

As an aside, you may have noticed the DVD retaillers doing 3 for

and the saturation radio play for weeks in advance of a single's release

I present to you ladies and gentlemen (drum roll) RADIO 1!!!!!!this station is to$$ now the only decent shows are on at night during the day it's like Now whatever number they are on played continuous with a bit of lame drivvel inbetween. Now BBC 6 Music on the other hand :D

As far as pricing of CDs and DVDs go, I reckon there's a decent cut taken by distributor / record company.

Where I work, you can buy the latest albums for about a fiver. I think they've taken most of the "profits" out at that cost and you're left paying the production costs and associated rights which go to the production co / artist.

The same is for DVDs.

And whilst we're at it, PS2 games too. Latest ones either

i actually like radio 1, but tbh i think the best bit is a decent bit of banter and the general chat from the dj's, not teh music.

that is that people are actually fed up with the less than average crap that is todays music

I think this is the biggest problem! Someone somewhere has figured that 13 year old girls have the most money to spend on music, and so have made them the target demographic for the majority of chart music.

Well if I can order a Cd/DVD from the states, have it shipped by Air to my door for less USD than the shelf price in GBP, why do I need to go to town, stuggle into a urine scented staircase and buy the thing from a underpaid uninterested assistant?

The Answer?

I don't. I promote world trade.

The present music is pants, barring some exceptions, normally found past the the first 6 feet of aforementioned music store. HMV are still okay, it's the getting there I don't like.

Wait for sales, wait long enough and the stuff is on offer. I listen to interweb radio all the time now, never know whats playing , but maybe onc a night I'll stop and look as it's a great tune. Won't buy it, but I won't download it either; far to much hassle. I can imagine it's killing it, but if the numpties embraced it then why would it?

I'd happily buy the albumn for 6 quid online and download it, who needs the crappy staged photo's anyway? I just loose them or swap cd cases so I can play find the CD in a rush before we go on holiday game.

Okay so it might be hurting them a bit...but when somebody has oodles of millions that wuld buy a small country, do they need anymore? Thumbs up to George, don't like your music, but I do like it that your releasing for free on 'tinternet. It's nice to find a bands site and download a sample, a whole track or all of them.

Bono and his 3rd world debt crusade. Always got up my nose that one, a multi-millionaire preaching to working people that it's evil to make "poor" countries re-pay their debts..

Oh the irony of it all...

NME have a download section and most decent bands do seem to give tracks away for nowt. I would prefer just to download my music straight from a server and pay a small amount rather than the huge mark up for packaging etc!!! I mean I don't even look at the cd coverwork or that I just listen to the music. I also convert the vast majority to MP3 to listen to in the gym!

An even Apple are being investigated for charging more for a track download in the UK than anywhere else.

yeh right, if your gullible enough to belive that...do you want to buy a bridge I got for sale
