Resale is tricky though, sometimes very tricky. I'm very surprised that markup's been possible. Of course, it depends on what's been spent in total fixing it and then upgrading bits :)

Sorry to dig this thread up.. This car was bought in today by its new owner, who knew nothing about the mileage problem..

Clocks show 43k, a read of the ecu confirms 109k, poor chap knew nothing...

Turbo isn't the same as what it left us with, rather laggy, seems like the turbine wheel hasn't been cut back like the turbo-dynamics turbos are..

Air filter was half sucked in, absolutely no air flow, rusted and split straight down the middle, possibly where the turbo's sucked so hard on it. Compared to my green filter you can see light through mine, completely none through the filter currently on this fabia.

Guy was told that the car had been remapped and setup for "drag" use, hence the turbo coming in late or something, read the ecu out, map exactlly the same as what it left us with.. Probably this story comes from a few videos of it on youtube with luke at santapod.

Shocker! Fingers crossed he gets to pass his opinion on to the seller.

Terrible really, but glad that's managed to limp its way back to you at least - who know more about it than anyone.

Hope it's possible to get it back to the health and standard that it last left you with

Steve

Yeah, I hope it gets restored to former glory.

Such a shame it happened in the first place mind.

Wonder if he'll get the clock "corrected".

Might as well. It's fooling nobody is it really! Least of all him, know he knows the true mileage :(

Steve

Shocking. Bet the owner is well ****ed. Hope the new owner has the time and money to put it back to good health.

What's the story with the intercooler?

Just as an aside, Did it come straight from the "squeaky clean" member who knew nothing about it and was going to:

I think the penny has dropped and just dawned on me that maybe the reason that paul hadn't passed the documents on was because of the mileage dicrepancy.

Ill sort it tomorrow with a trip to his house in my recovery truck and winch up his car until he sorts the papers out. Might not be legal but i should at least get a response from him.

If so then the buyer may have a legitimate legal claim considering the documented evidence in this thread.

Antrim car dealer James Edward Barr (50) has been fined £2' date='000 (€2,160) plus court costs, at Antrim Magistrates' Court for selling a ‘clocked’ car.

The TSS investigation discovered that Mr Barr had purchased the vehicle from another car trader with 128,000 miles on the odometer and then advertised the Volkswagen Passat Estate as having travelled 97,000 miles.

The purchaser became suspicious when Jim Barr was unable to produce the service history for the vehicle and when he made further enquiries he discovered that it had travelled at least 128,000 miles. He reported the matter to the Trading Standards Service.[/quote']

Well worth looking into, absolutely.

We did do our best to iron out the 'discrepancies' of the sale...

Steve

how was the clutch, ive heard that it was on its way out ?

Hope the guy gets it sorted :( Perhaps drop this thread to him in the hopes he can sort it out with the seller?

Does the guy plan to let you put it back to how it should be? I watched the Performance Tuner video just yesturday!

tbh If I'd bought it under the pretence that it was something else AND I had the money, I'd want to put it back. But the second point's the biggy.

I don't think Clarkie has any comeback for the mileage and description discrepencies as it was a private sale and the onus is on the purchaser to check the cars history. It would be different if the vendor was a Registered busines dealer though.

There are plenty off cases where people have bought lemons from private deals and then fell foul off the law by driving an unsafe car on the road. The new owners are responsible for making a car roadworthy in the eyes of the law although the police do show some empathy for their plight and are not prosecuted, however in serious cases they have had the car taken away and crushed, ultimatley loosing their money without any redress from the former owner. At least this ex Jabba car is not deemed dangerous but claiming money back from the last owner is not going to happen.

Kev

If the new owner wants the mileage setting to what it should be, I'm quite happy to do it for him FOC. I don't know if you have the gear for that sort of stuff so thought I'd offer.

Cheers

A kind gesture indeed mate :)

Is it just me or every time i log on here and look threw cars for sale you say this about just about every one on here - previously on this thread you comented about how you wanted to buy it and now again.......

i think since i sold my old fabia you were in the same boat and still 12 months down the line your still "looking"

one word only springs to mind which is the most annoying type of buyer out there - dreamer.......

No need to quote previous post.

^ Perhaps a little harsh..!

i find when buying a second hand car you can never look at too many,i tend to look at at least 20 examples before settling on one

Exactly, a little bit harsh fella.

+1 for the above post though. I looked at 30+ fabia's before I bought mine.

In all fairness to Lewis's comment, looking at a few cars is expected, before buying.

Rob seems to just want to make offers....

I tend to side with Lewis.

Thats by the by, this thread is about something else, so back on topic.

Has the new owner been on the forum yet ?

At least he now knows a little more history about the car, and we can all sigh a breath of relief that it's probably going to be maintained well now.

ROB HAS MONEY BURNING IN HIS POCKET!!!!!!!! haha.

Think the guy needs to come on for some love. I know I would need it if I found out mine had been clocked.

I'll sell you my fabia rob lol.
