I hope not, I dread to think what would happen if anyone fell on it. Is it like those Boudica chariots - ie sticking out from the hub?

spare lol

I dont think so

It does in Ireland anyway.I hate those skinny wheels. They call them space savers, should be called MONEY SAVERS!!!!!!!!.

I thought it had been dropped for the newer 2010 run??

It is a £60.00 optional extra nowadays and it is a space-saver. I have specced it on my order since a tin of foam will useless in half the puncture situations.

Mine has a full-size spare wheel, i.e., a REAL one. No optional, it's standard equipment at least here in Spain.

I have a pretty big spare wheel.It's 205/55 R16.The other ones are 225/40 R18.

Hum, yes, a guy at work got his wife a new Punto Grande, after a long fast run, and about 10 miles from home, on the way back from his daughter's wedding, the stuff in the back started to rattle, as he pulled into the hard shoulder smoke and stuff started coming out of the car at the O/S front. When he got out he discovered that most of the centre of the front O/S tyre had vanished. So, what to do next, he looks in the boot and where the spare wheel could be there is only a container of foam! Reads label, first thing he sees is "not to be used by anyone suffers from asthma" - he gets asthma! Anyway with the centre section of the tyre "gone" he reckons that there is no point so calls the AA who cover all new Fiats for the first 12 months - "use the foam it will fix any sort of tyre leak" - it took a while to get through to them that that was not going to work. So, they gave in and recovered him, by this was Sunday and 18:30 and the car was full of wedding presents etc - they pointed out that he could only get one recovery for this problem so he just got them to take him home. Next day, out to the car, he can find the security nut key, but there is no jack or wheel wrench! So plan A which was to get the wheel of and get a lift to a tyre place fell flat on its face! Plan B had to be to get a mobile tyre fitter out - this comes at a premium! It just a pity that I had talked to him about this very problem when he first discovered that the car comes with no spare wheel - that was even before I knew that the car came without a jack or wheel wrench.

Just so we can clarify the 2008/2009 Superbs have a full sized steel wheel not a space saver although depending on spec it may or may not be the same size tyre as the wheels on the car (the rolling radius should be the same though)

For the 2010 run the spare wheel has been deleted and a can of foam is provided , if you do opt for the spare its a space saver and not a full sized item

Here that option-wheel is full-sized, but I think that it`s 16". So if the car has 17" wheels, then it`s not....

But anyway, I think that a spare wheel is a MUST in a car, those foams or whatever are crap....:thumbdwn:

Yes it is here as well my car has a 16" wheel with a 205 tyre so narrower than the 18" alloy that is fitted with a 225 tyre but this is the same as 99% of cars out there

BIG big difference between that which will allow you to continue your journey and get the tyre fixed when its convenient and a space saver that is only good for 30-50mph and a true emergency option only suitable for getting you straight to a garage

FWIW i also carry a can of foam in my car its good stuff and has got me out of trouble in the past

I have just collected a new Elegance 140 and it came without spare/space saver wheel, jack and wheel wrench. The salesman only told me about it when we picked up the car and it was not mentioned as an option when the car was ordered. For clarification I live in Ayrshire, Scotland. Absolutley love the car but have alreday taken steps ti get a spare, a jack and wheel wrench. My wife who bought a new SEAT Ibiza recently (wouldn't listen to me) laos found herself without spare wheel and tools. She has already had 2 punctures (different tyres) but one necessitated a new tyre to be fitted and that only after 900 miles!!! Saving weight is one thing but safety and our money was obviously something that was not considered when the decision was taken to remove spare wheels and tools from the vehicles. VAG must be saving millions whilst we are all having to pay extra. Think again VAG.

My previous post sounds like a rant but it's not really meant to be. The Superb is a dream but after my wife's experience I DEFINATELY believe that removing the spare and tools has been a bad, BAD idea.

p.s. Please accept my apologies for all and any spelling mistakes. LOL

Re above - apart from using a Dealer does anyone know a reliable source for a space saver/spare wheel and tool set for the Superb? Many thanks.

I just ordered a Superb Elegance (in Ireland) and it won't have a spare wheel. I'll definitely ask the dealer in advance if I can order one extra.

Yeah, its on the options list.

I picked up a spare plus tools today - paid £85 as I had a voucher to offset some of the cost.

Realised when in France with a caravan last month that I didn't have a jack or wheel brace if the van had a flat as I'd always relied on the car kit in the past!

Hello folks,

Collecting mine on Mon 1st Oct, and of course mine does not have a spare, only the can. Does anybody know if the space in the boot is capable of taking a full size 17" spare? or only a 16" like some others on here have mentioned?

I might ask the dealer how much for a spare wheel & tyre when i collect the car, Reckon I wont like the answer though....

Thanks in advance!

It's not the diameter that's the issue but the width. 205x55/16 fits fine. The extra width of the 225 width tyres used on 17" and 18" wheels means that the boot floor wouldn't lie flat (at least for the standard floor!).

I knew my Greenline would not have a spare but because it is a greenline its not even an option.

I just got one from the parts dept.

Spare wheel and jack kit was around £127.

My 2009 does have a full size spare ie steel wheel , come to think about i haven't checked the size of it yet , only had it 2 days now :)

My previous car a Citroen C4 Grand Piccaso had a can of foam and a compressor to blow up the tyre but in the 2 years i had it i never had to use it but i do feel much better having a spare to put on if needed

Just the foam-**** as standard here in Denmark. The cheapest way to get a proper spare wheel is to use one of the winter tyres and buy the jack/tools from Skoda. It´s legal to do so here; and the other way around when using all the winter tyres ;)

I have the Superb Elegance Combi MY2011.

I have a full size Alloy wheeel fitted with the 225 40 18 tyre, this is a perfect fit in the vehicle with the standard floor and the flloor is perfectly flat no suggestion of any raising.
