'55 plate Superb TDi 130 Elegance Edition 100 remap...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

For about 700 miles(ish) I ran one of those cheap £20 tuning boxes from ebay.

The car has decided it wants to throw up an 'Emiisons Workshop !' error message on the information display on the dashboard, accompanied by the engine management light within the speedo. SO, I removed the box feeling this might have been the cause. It wasn't , as the lights / warnings are still being displayed. (I ******ized the box while removing it, lol)

Taking it to a VAG specialist tomorrow morning, & he thinks it will be the engine temp sender had failed, but we shall see.

Really, what I wanted to ask was, has anyone had their 130 TDi Superb remapped?

How much power do you have now?

Is there much increased black smoke from the exhaust?

How many miles has it been remapped for?

Anything else you think I might be interested in knowing?

Cheers,

Pete.

(PS. Car feels bit ****ty now the box has gone, as I was getting used to the extra bit of OOMPH!)

Had mine remapped by Jabba (generic). Not any more smoke that I've noticed. It's currently running 166bhp (lower than I'd hoped) still pulls hell tho.

Turned lout the ECI light being lit up was due to a warning being triggered by the fuel temp sender (the tuning box plugged into this).

Had the warning light rest & fingers crossed all is well again.

Still have the box removed & don't plan to re-use it.

Been speaking to a guy today who can remap the car for me.

Booked in for this coming Saturday :)

Cheers,

Pete.

Boxes are rubbish mate, all it does is to choke the car, a remap is the way as it increases all the parameters for the engine to work together, or another way to look at it, a map is the master volume contol on an amp, where a box is just the bass knob.

Ran my superb elegance 130 taxi for the last couple of years, had it remapped at 100k to about 160-170bhp by Richard Washbrook at Oscarli. Pulled like a train without much smoke. Have just sold it with 240k on it and still running perfectly. Now waiting for superb 170cr elegance to be delivered. :D

I have to say not all boxes are rubbish. It's true there's loads of cheap boxes around and the £20 ones are usually just resistors and are AWFUL THINGS, steer clear! I run a Dragon box on mine and to date it's given no problems and actually gives the same power (perhaps a little more?), than a remap. It did cost £250 new though. I managed to get mine off of a chap on this forum second hand for £160. Got it to see the power difference and figured if I wanted a remap I could always sell the box and go for the remap (the idea being you can't sell a remap if it didn't make much difference) .... only thing is whilst the box gives this performance I'm unlikely to go for the remap in all honesty. :o

It's an age old argument on here. Personally I reckon a remap would be the way to go being as Dragon have shut up shop now and I hear they were the best boxes around. I have heard some pretty bad reports about other tuning boxes, so be warned and do your research.

My 2.5TDi Tip has been done by Will at Performance Torque, I am not interested in figures to be honest, but it drives erm, superbly now, tiptronic box is less "wishy washy" and it really does pull like the afformentioned train. No extra smoke but the added bonus of an improvement in fuel consumption, I am now getting around 540 miles to a tankful brim to brim. Will knows his stuff and I have had 3 cars tweaked by him now, great service, great results and outstanding prices.

Had to pull the plug on the remap for the time being...

Anyone tried Rover Ron's PD Tuning module ? He sells via the internet

Looks impressive and it's adjustable, just wondered if anyone has fitted one ?

I'm having a PD130 remapped by Will at P-Torque on Thursday, will write a review once I've run it for a tankful.............

I agree it looks ok, but I would want to see inside to make sure its not just a switch with some resistors soldered on. The website is very basic and clicking on the More info link takes you to a missing page, which for a good website should not happen.

Ah Rover Ron he gets about a bit. Ive just changed from a rover 45 td to the superb, I was a member of the mgrover forum and rons kit is good quality and he knows what hes doing. If youve any queries about him and his kit, nip over to the forum and have an ask

Will at P-Torque ECU Performance Software Specialists worked his magic on my Superb PD130 this morning, giving it a Stage 1 remap. I've only done 150 miles so far, however I can already say with confidence that it's the best two hundred quid I've spent on any car or bike

I'll scan the dyno output tomorrow - the barge is now delivering 297lb/ft of torque and power's up to 177hp, the difference is huge and noticeable everywhere. It drives far smoother now and the drive back seemed effortless. Very impressed:thumbup:

Even better, on the way up (Oxford to Wolverhampton) I averaged 52.6mpg and on the way back (which included a fair bit of playing with the new torque) I averaged 54.4mpg. Went training tonight which is a 36mile round trip and drove within the speed limits on the cruise where I could, and get this - 61.2mpg![/b Doesn't seem right does it, loads more oomph yet more frugal on fuel - but that's what the P-Torque remap is delivering so far

I'll give it a few hundred more miles and let you know how it's going. Car's an 03 with 83K on it

Still handles like a wet turd though;)

How are you getting on with the remap after a couple of weeks? Is the economy still high? Are you used to the extra power yet? :)

Made new post instead of editing existing one..

Hi All,

Been 1500 miles since Will at P-Torque did my remap under the Briskoda group buy and I'm very happy with it. To be honest you get used to the extra torque within days, so much so that I can't actually remember what it was like before

Anyway, the bottom line is that for £200 the result is amazing - am averaging 53 to 54mpg to a tank based on what the onboard comp says - and that's driving like a **** a good proportion of the time (not that you can actually drive a barge like this like a proper **** without it putting you through a hedge!)

Dyno map is below....................S
