Government attacking the motorist again!

Another daft plan from the motorist bashing goverment

This is hilarious. Its very rare that i drive to work, and dont see a stupid cyclist doing something suicidal, like jumping red lights.

There are 2 types of cyclist, fair weather cyclists (ie they own cars), and hardcore. The fair weather are generally ok, because they appreciate what lengths a driver has to go through on a daily basis to avoid killing cyclists.

The hardcore think they own the road (surely even they know only BMW drivers own the road), and dont care about anyone but themselves.

Rather than take blame away from the cyclist, they should be made to take a road driving test, and have insurance like the rest of us. They should also be just as accountable when breaking the law.

That's just stupid (this government excel in stupid ideas.) So if a cyclist comes through a red light, and a car hits him/her, the car driver is to blame.

This story comes up every six months or so and they've never made it stick. I can't imagine the government passing a law that instantly assumes guilt, and the insurance companies wouldn't like the constant payouts to scammers either.

Government advisers want to change civil law to make the most powerful vehicle involved in an accident automatically liable for insurance and compensation purposes.

Excellent idea, every time I want to put a claim in I will run into a bus, or the nearest BMW :D:D:D:D:D

I'm no expert but I would hazard a guess that this would be against Human Rights legislation.

I think this is part of a government campaign to release headline-grabbing stories to distract from the utter mess they've made of the economy and their incompetent leader.

The current craze in this area is for cyclists to ride on the wrong side of the road (albeit near the kerb) obviously wearing the darkest clothes they can find & needless to say without lights.

I saw one of these nearly got wiped out on a dual carriageway the other day, by a car trying to join from a side road. He even had to cheek to give a torrent of abuse to the car driver, when really he should have been thanking him for saving his life, unless he was angry because his suicide bid had been thwarted!

So if a car driver is sitting still and a cyclist rides into them it's the car drivers fault.....absolutely crazy.

This is mad - what is the country coming to?

I'm pretty sure this story has done the rounds before.

Maybe before you have a pop at cyclists, at least get your facts and descriptions right.

Strange as it may seem (and there's a clue in the words if you look hard enough) fair weather cyclists are people who will only go out on their bikes in dry weather - it doesn't automatically mean they own cars. Neither does it mean they will understand a car driver's perspective better than any other. I'd argue the absolute opposite - a cyclist who is prepared to cycle in wet weather is likely to pay even more attention to what's around him for fear of being wiped out by unobservant car drivers who will say "I didn't see him".

I hate to use the colloquial, but that's just absolute ******

The one point I do agree with you on is that cyclists should be held responsible for the accidents they cause, and that the Government are total incompetents to suggest that car drivers should be held responsible whatever the circumstances.

All bikes should have lights and Dixie horns, riders should have to wear full leather's especially in the summer, helmets kit equipped with a CO2 meter to allow proper taxation. A big square reg plate to aid aerodynamics should be placed at the front, they should also come with a 50kg emergency pack ideal for steep hills. Only then will i give them respect on the road.

Thank you so much for that worthwhile contribution

Well said. What this country needs is a cyclist day for politicians only. Car drivers then get awarded points for how many politicians they can mow down while staying within the posted speed limit.

Sits back and waits for a *******ing from Brimma

Sorry to disappoint - I'm all *******ed out for tonight - I'll have to save it for another day ! :P

Actually you could make a film of that and call it :-

Death Race For No 10 :rofl:

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

My Dad lives in Spain, and he says they already have this law there:rolleyes:

I hit a cyclist last year in my old Passat, it was dark, he had no lighting, wore dark clothes and was invisible to me. He wasnt badly hurt but the Police said it was all my fault and they always blame the driver and never the cyclist. We ought to be like the Low Countries and have seperate lanes for the cyclists, the majority have no road sense at all and are either dangerous or ignorant towards car drivers.

Thank you so much for that worthwhile contribution

My contribution to the thread was my use of satire.

They (cyclists) dont pay road tax, insurance, pass any type of inspection, cycle like idiots in Edinburgh city center (this is from actual experience of driving in Edinburgh for several years, not a trolling comment) worst of all a high percentile do not follow the high way code. I see them as a liability. Every other week you here about one getting hit by a lorry after they run a red light.

If this makes it onto the statute book I will eat my wig. Twice.

Maybe before you have a pop at cyclists, at least get your facts and descriptions right.

Maybe its different where you are, but my comment was based on my observations.

I wasn't having a pop at all cyclists, just the absolute loonies that think saving 2 minutes on their journey to work is worth risking their life for.:rotz:
