vRS.... How many miles to a tank???

Featured Replies

Sorry to come along with another question for you Octy II guys. :o

I'm just interested as to what sort of range you get with the petrol and diesel vRS's. As i've mentioned in a couple of other posts i'm looking at going for a FL vRS. I currently have a Furby vRS and get around 500 miles to a tank (about £60 to fill up). I travel around 25 miles each way to work and it's 95% motorway driving. In all the car will be probably doing around 70-80% motorway driving.

I'm undecided on whether to go for the petrol or diesel hence me asking about what sort of range you get from a full tank in both versions.

The info i've read does say the petrol is a lot more fun to drive but i've still got this little niggle in the back of my mind to keep with a diesel.

Cheers

Dave.

My car is approx averaging 360-380 miles to a tank( i think i average 30-31 mpg, my trip actually under reads and says 26-27 but i know 30+ ), bear in mind heavily modded but i think it does the same standard lol. It's so much fun i don't care that it doesn't do 500 to a tank.

Normal driving and the CR TDI should give you at least 500 miles on a tank full (55 litres)

petrol VRS gets about 360 maybe, and up to 35 mpg on a run

So we're looking at an approx 130-150 mile difference in range between the two then...... And i do either 150 or 250 miles, (i work twelve 3-day weeks and three 5-day weeks), of motorway driving going to and from work each week plus maybe another 50-100 miles each week in my own time.

Using the link above i think it would mean it costs me around £30 a month more to have the petrol version compared to the diesel version but there is an initial £700 extra to pay on the diesel car.

I'm on a night shift and just working that out has made my head hurt. :D

Is it time to go home yet??? :D

Cheers

dont forget the extra cleaning costs involved with he big cloud of soot that sollows the derv everywhere :D

My usual commute is about 16 miles each way - about 4 miles on fast dual carriageway, and most of the balance on 50mph limit roads. I typically get 400+ miles to a tank of petrol, almost always filling up before the "low fuel" light comes on. I did have one tankful a couple of months back which had a couple of nice off-peak 80 mile motorway runs as well, so I wondered if I could get 500 miles out of that tank - managed to get 502 before I filled up, and the low fuel light was only on for the last 8 miles or so, so theoretically I could have pushed it to close to 550. Okay, you wouldn't have mistaken my driving style for that tankful with that of Gabriele Tarquini, but I was no slouch or slowcoach either.

I suppose the other thing to consider is the £50 per year difference in road tax.

Dave, IMO you should stop being a tight ar$e and get a bloody petrol vRS!:P:P:D

I know that the DPF gets some bad press (mine has been fine except for the recall), but the lack of smoke from a diesel is one of the reasons that I went for a PD vRS.

I think that the diesel will still be worth more than the petrol when you come to sell, so anything saved on fuel costs should be straight back into your pocket.

Saying that, I would still probably prefer the petrol for the 'driving experience' as much as I like my car.

I am soon to change from a PD to a CR as well, and the new engine is a lot more 'petrol like'.

Petrol - about 360 miles

What a difference a day makes with me..... If our worst fears come true on Thursday i might well be falling out with VAG cars altogether. :(

I've done 3 different commutes with my PD VRS. Originally 25miles A road/M-way/Town averaged 42mpg. Then 35miles Town/Dual Carriageway/A&B roads/Town 42-48mpg. Recently 4 miles across town 36mpg. Not prone to a light right foot in any commute. Best mileage so far was non-stop 500miles Plymouth to Edinburgh, 49litres to refuel tank at the end and again no hanging about plus climate on all the way.

And for those reasons I like the diesel. However, should have got a petrol cos the forums say its more fun and that's what driving a VRS is all about.

CR TDi vRS, no smoke - so no cleaning the soot (what extra cleaning has any diesel owner every had to do???). Journeys are predominantly dual carriageway/motorway and I get 600 mile sto a tank, refill of 50 to 55 litres, never paid £60 to refuel yet.

PD Diesel vRS - Normally get to at least 450 - 460 miles before the warning comes on. Best has been 509 miles before the warning. Usually do a mix of A and B roads and some motorway. (occassionally some Brisk driving....;)) Also no soot to clean off my car.

I too was toying with this when placing the order. Yes the prteol is faster and better top speed and with me doing less miles at the moment it would make sense. But since going to the darkside I prefer the drive of a diesel so in the end I went for the diesel.

this does not happen as the dpf removes this soot so much less of an issue than with the fabia.

my mk2 pd170 vrs did 540 miles on the last tank this week 90% motorway/A road though, is about 50 miles less when doing more town driving.

I have a Stage 2+ modified vRS and on a motorway cruise of 280 miles i can get 40.7mpg. I have managed over 600miles on one tank

At Stage 2 i was able to get 42mpg

At Stage 1 i was able to get about 39mpg

Standard the best i managed was 35.2mpg

Remapping really does improve your economy at motorway speed i.e. 70-80 however on the flip side if you boot it it uses a lot more fuel too.

Round town i get 27-28mpg with Stage 2+

Oh an i have accurised my trip computer and it's pretty much spot on give or take 1mpg

Ive had my FL vRS TDI now for approx 2 and half weeks, do a lot of driving an have clocked up 2800 miles already. Over that distance my trip is reading average of 50.5 mpg. Drove from Cornwall to Aberdeen 2 days after getting the car and got ave of 51.6mpg over that drive (ave speed of 60mph). At the end of a days drive last week (Thursday drove Aberdeen to Wick and back to Inverness!) got an average of 52.7 mostly doing about 50mph. The longer you drive steadly over a day the more the tip mpg seems to go up - booting it you can quickly see it fall off obviously (get a good start to the day and by the end of the day the mpg average is very good - have seen it his 56pmg.

Im new to this forum and have seen mentioned numerous times about stage 1, stage 2 (but honestly havent a clue what this is and presuming it only applies to petrol - can someone point to a friendly guide on this)

Car is fantastic, finding suspension a lot bumpier than what I am used to in my old Mazda 6 but vRS car is a lot classier, grippier, and generally feels great and looks the ticket. Seats are more supportive and havent had my usual sore back since I got the car. Impressed with its power and pull in all gears and really pleased that when you boot it there is no apparent lag (compared to the Mazda6 of old).
