Dension Ipod interface via maxidot problems

Featured Replies

Hi,

My new toy has stopped working properly already..

All was well until last night when I stopped in at the cashline for two minutes on the way home.

After I started the car again, the ipod was not shown on maxidot, but it plays the tracks ok ?

Still not on the maxidot menu this morning, so checked cabling etc, pulled the power to the unit to see if that helped. still not working.

Ran a diag check on the car, two codes flagged up, one for radio fault, another for canbus. Though all would be ok once these were cleared. Cleared them all, scanned again clean, but they the ipod still isn't shown in the maxidot menu ?

Any ideas ? I'm thinking a fault on the dension box that may have flagged faults ?

I'm waiting for a response from Dension reference my Gateway 300 which resolutely refuses to work in anything other than ipodui mode. They are a bit peeved about the fact there are at least seven models of Columbus which they are having to retro code for some of and the weird thing is mine is actually one of the codes which supposedly doesn't have an issue!

I'm trying to stick with the Dension - I like them as a company and I've used an ICELINK+ in a Punto for fours years with only the odd hiccup (it sometimes flipped back into ipodui mode for no reason)

The thing is for the money it should be better - I'm giving it another week then calling it quits.

It seems things aren't going 100% smoothly with the Dension interfaces at the moment.. mine is faultless (GW300 with Maxidot) and has been since day 1. There appears to be some problems with Columbus integration which they thought they'd fixed already, but the Maxidot versions I thought were OK.

Yes, my Dension 300 (as supplied by Shark 90 - thanks) occasionally flips back to IPODUI mode. The only way to reset it, is to disconnect then reconnect the ipod. But it only happens sometimes and I'm very pleased with it overall. It's great being able to control my ipod using the Columbus. Now if I could only get my MFSW buttons working again following the latest firmware update.......

Hi,

My new toy has stopped working properly already..

Do you have the Skoda bluetooth kit installed by any chance? I've had almost exactly the same problem as you, and finally tracked it down to some sort of conflict with the bluetooth module.

I've been through hours of the menu disappearing, then re-connect bluetooth module and have both features, then come back to the car the next day and Gateway menu is gone again :(

Current situation is that I've left the Bluetooth module disconnected and (touch-wood) Gateway menu is staying put. I'm only using USB, by the way, not ipod.

When it works, it's a great piece of kit, but I'm starting to think the software is very buggy. I'm in a conversation with Dension support but I'm not getting very far with them yet, since they are still asking questions like "Are you sure you have maxidot?". I appreciate it's hard for them to diagnose over email without knowing all the details though.

I have the Skoda BT and have absolutely no issues with any conflict or the menu disapearing etc.

I originally thought that the menu may work by emulating a telephone module however this is not the case as I have both working perfectly.

The guys at Dension are no doubt doing all they can but they haven't worked with Skoda before. Once I explained that the systems are shared with VW and that I could do some Skoda testing my original thread appeared... hopefully there will be some resolve to this soon for those who are having problems.

swil00 - could you post the exact errors codes if possible please?

Check out the 2664 fw thread... it can be done! B_thumb.gif

Follow the steps to the letter >> here << & your buttons will work once more! smile.gif

Thanks Simbo99, I have seen those threads, but unfortunately I am not the worlds best with computers! :(

When I rename the files, and try to burn with IMGBURN, the file size seems to have shrunk!

I'm obviously doing something wrong....think I'll have to ask on the appropriate thread (or forum).

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll post the errors codes in the morning, as they are stored on my laptop in work.

Dension tech support are currently investigating the problem, I told them about the errors codes, but I scanned the car this morning again after driving another 150 miles and all was still all clear.

I don't have any BT kit, so its not that causing the problems. I suspect the dension may have caused the problems with the fault codes ? but then again I'm no expert.

I've still not heard from Dension Support...........

I'll give it another hour before I call Dension back.

I think I'm reconsidering blaming the bluetooth module, since I've had further problems today. BT kit has been permanently disconnected now for 2 days and Gateway was working fine. Popped into supermarket for 10 minutes, restarted the car and the gateway menu has gone again. :( Will see if it comes back tonight, after leaving the car for a bit.

Mine vanished from the maxidot last Friday and has never been back since.

Between myself and Dension tech support I have done:

Disconnect/reconnect ipod

Check all connections

pull power from Dension gateway module to reset

attempt to upgrade firmware

copy a new installation file from USB stick

reset the unit after this using a reset file on a USB stick.

Emailed Dension back a few hours ago, stgill to hear back from them.

The first glimmer of predictable behaviour I got was when I first disconnected the BT kit and the menu appeared for the first time, then re-connected BT and it disappeared again, hence me blaming the BT kit initially.

Now I'm finding that the behaviour only changes after leaving the car for an extended period (at least an hour or so). So if it's vanished, no amount of switching ignition on/off will bring it back. Leave it a few hours though, and it comes back! And sometimes exactly that in reverse! :S

I will stop posting a complete diary of my Gateway experiences soon, I promise! ...but, sure enough, went back to the car this evening and the menu is back again. BT kit still disconnected.

Have you called Dension Tech support about the problems your having ?

They told me they've never heard of such problems before.

I haven't called them, but I have started an email support ticket with them. I had one reply back asking for details of software versions etc. (even requesting pictures of my maxidot display), but having sent all of those details last week, I've received no replies. So, if they're saying they've not heard of it before, that's not strictly true...

Dension support are having a hell of a time at the moment with all the crazy Skoda guys telling them that their 300's are cocking up. They were supposed to call me last week but have not done so.

........and it seems common to receive the "we've never had that issue before" Apparently mine should work but of course it doesn't. Still, I have no doubt they are working on resolving but in the meantime they really need to keep people updated of progress.

There is a problem with some of the RNS510 integration but only on Skodas. As for the single CAN units (non-Columbus) all I can say (again) is that mine has been faultless! I even tested a BAP unit personally to confirm that it worked and posted it up.

I hope that you guys with problems don't get too disheartened, these teething problems will get sorted out in time I'm sure.

my 100 has disappeared from the maxidot display on a couple of occasions but seems to come back when I restart the car

Sounds like it isn't causing you much inconvenience, but it might be good if you could register the query with Dension support anyway - hopefully give the issue a bit more weight and get us a firmware update before too long?

I've just been onto Dension tech support again, seems you only get places when you call them, they tell you they'll call you back, which I'm sure they'd do eventually.....

Anyways, my Dension, which disappeared from maxidot last Friday, never to return, is now to be replaced. Fingers crossed it is the Dension that is causing the issue :-)

One interesting point to make, When I called, the guy asked what kind of car it was again, he asked if it was a Seat, then said that there were "quite a few" on the go.....

My Dension 100 never appeared in my Maxidot and Dension tech support are looking into it. However I am starting to think that the guys who installed it may have messed a few things around (the car previously had a Connects2ipod kit which they removed).

Can anyone recommend an ICE specialist in the Hertfordshire region who knows their way around a Skoda? I really need to get the original quadlok wired up as it was as the installers removed the Aux and CD Changer.

Can people calling Dension tech support please post up who they are speaking to and on what number?

I dealt with Simon in Dension Tech Support.

I called 01494 898950 and asked to be put through to Tech Support.

OK, just wanted to check. I've found Simon to be very helpful and has called me back when he said he would.
