If it's this one it's one hell of a chunk of metal (and leather) for £3750

Shame about the running costs though, I'd imagine :'(

Had to visit the local VAG dealer today for a spare part, found this on display :)

Got a mk1 sierra xr4i sat on the drive if anyone wants a restoration project, was and still is the only one in york :)

Yesturday on the M20, a Mint condition Sierra Saphire Cosworth on a G plate so that would be a RWD one, in white.

Scaramanger's flying car... You don't see that on the road, often! :giggle:

used to love my mk2 cortina 1600e

pretty fast for the early 70s

very rarely seem them other than classic car shows

when i had it a guy in wakefield had a cortina savage which i used to drool over.

Used to have a B reg mk2 Carlton 1.8 carb used to take all the abuse i could give it, was great till the mot tester noticed my paper mache inner wings git!

Spelling corrected in-line.

Fun facts - that was a real car/aeroplane project, not just film effects footage. As was "Little Nellie" in "You Only Live Twice" (websearch for "Wallis Autogyro" for verification).

Also, the AMC "barrel roll" stunt in TMWTGG was done for real too, albeit not with Roger Moore and Joe Don Baker (IIRC) in the car.

Winter is long since gone, so our Uni Chaplain's Volvo PV831, model nickname 'The Sow', is out of its garage again :) Built 1950-58 it was the most common cab in Sweden during the 50's and early 60's. 3.6 litre 6 cyl engine, 90 (!) BHP:

DOEZ WANTZ!!! :D

And, before anyone asks, yes it actually is RHD.

Car in the pic is actually LHD. It's weird, but although we drove to the left in Sweden till 1967, cars back then were often LHD (including Volvos, SAABs, and UK cars).

Model T Ford

First car to be mass produced I understand.

So amazing people use to drive them up to the top of Ben Nevis to have a party. Try that with your modern car!

Was having this exact convo with my mate earlier.

Probably already mentioned, but some retro hatchback business..

- Vauxhall Nova. The previous generations 'Corsa'. Back in 2001 everyone under the age of 25 had a Nova and it seems their demise was met due to all of them being crashed or so terribly modified they committed suicide (can't blame them)

- Ford Fiesta mk1 - My dad had one of these when I was growing up. As did everyone else! The dear ol' Mk1 seemed to disappear due to rust. No shortage of Mk3-onwards though!

- Metro (Austin/MG) - You still see a fair few Rover 100s but how many Austin or MG Metros do you see around? Hell, there are probably more MGs due to their collectors status, whereas the Austin from what I remember was designed to literally fall apart at the seams within seconds of its warranty expiring. Considering every other car on the road in the late 80s must have been a Metro I can only assume these turned into dust overnight and met their maker. Same with the Maestro!

Ah, and while I remember... The ford Orion. You still see plenty of Escorts, but the old saloon Orion which was massively popular back in the late 80s and early 90s are nowhere to be seen!

K, 1 more - The Yugo 45. Well worth reading about (there's a new book out about it I need to purchase). And of course the Lada Riva! 'nuff said!

One could say all old retro hatchbacks met their demise over time... But look at the popularity of used 106s, AXs, Corsas and Micras to this day. Bar the Corsa, these little things were built to last!

Saw a Fiat Coupé at the weekend. Not that old but I've not seen one for quite a while.

It wasn't a Turbo but it looked standard and well cared for. Still a striking car.

Design was well ahead of its time imo... These things were about in '95-'98ish right? How many cars from around that time don't look totally dated now? Some seemed to treat it like marmite, but I loved the styling. Still see a few about from time to time too!

Renault 18. My first 'new' company car circa 1981

My dads Datsun 160 Sports Coupe in 1980. I had some driving lessons in that & it didn't like 4th gear under 30mph!

Saw a Renault 5 Gordini a couple weeks back - first one I've seen for years.

I had a MK1 Fiesta - red with black vinyl roof!

Talking of Ford Orions - don't see the Vauxhall equivalent now - the Astra Belmont

My dad used to have an Astra belmont. Was never keen on the shape

Horrible looking things weren't they? :p I saw either one or both this and a mk1 Cavalier at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre in Gillingham a few weeks back. I recall news reports from many moons ago reporting the Belmont as one of the most stolen cars due to the ease of getting into & driving off with it? Could have sworn they made more than a few chase appearances on Police, Camera, Action back in the day too!

Truth is duller than story - In fact it was done once, but the car was significantly lightened for the attempt, and even then it was dismantled and carried up some of the steeper bits.

The Mk11 Astra and Belmont were seriously easy to start. The key operated a plain spade that turned the ignition switch so all you had to do was break off the lock and start it with a screwdriver.

Oh! :o The reason I know this is that a mate had one nearly nicked but they were disturbed - he drove it around for months using a screwdriver to start it. Until it was nicked again and found burnt out in Scarborough!
