Cars you don't see on the roads any more

Featured Replies

I know more than most people would want to about the old 1250/1300/1500/1600 Avengers (but not Avenger GTs and Tigers; they were built different to the cooking cars). Like one of my uncles had a new axle in one of his, when one of the axle tubes pulled out of the diff case.

I've just been out for a walk and saw two K reg Chavaliers in good condition.

Couldn't believe my eyes on the way home today - had to do a double take :-

Black 2-door Austin 1100 - years since I saw one of those on the open road

I saw a Renault 5 GT Turbo yesterday - looked quite tidy - or at least as tidy as they did when they were new - they always looked like they were about to fall apart.

Not seen a Vauxhall Viva for ages.

Does anybody else see the word "goose" when looking at the badge of a SAAB 900SE ???

:D Keep taking the tablets!! :D

An employee of a friend in the East Midlands has one of those, it's her first car. Very cool. If you're in that area, it was probably her, hers is the only one I've seen pottering about for about a decade.

Oooh , I saw one of these at the weekend :D

Very very good condition too :D

And knowing the build quality on those cars, there's about 1 chance in 4 you got a slower car as a result! ;) (Used to live about 10 miles from Linwood, and both my uncles had several examples of the Avenger each.)

My sister had a 1974 one. It biodegraded...

Saw a red one of these last Thursday, Cambridge area(post 192). Probably one of the few cars i would have in red, also these look tasty in white.

Audi 80 Sport was always a fave of mine after a good mate had one for a while. I fell in love with it, and was kinda rare 10 years back. Not seen one on the road since then!!

The 90 Quattro he had after that was another fave that I rarely if ever see these days! I've always loved Audi's but always owned Fords!!!! Daft git!!

I got to drive one of these as an 18 year old - long story involving someone's sister breaking down on the M6 and leaving her car at the services for her brother to sort out while she got the train to London, and insurance considerations meaning that he had to drive her poorly Fiesta Popular Plus back to his house, while I got to drive his Audi 80 Sport - and I'd only passed my test a few months. Annoyingly I had to follow the knackered Fiesta, which was unable to crack 50mph :-(

Every now and again you'll see a car that catches your eye because what was once a run of the mill vehicle is now a rarity. It needn't be anything particularly stunning , just something you might have forgotten about.

This was this week's sighting - an MG Metro Turbo - 93bhp of british engineering at it's best.

There can't be many of these that haven't dissolved or exploded but this looked to be in first class condition.

What oddities have you seen?

A mate of mine managed to stack his mum's metro turbo into the side of a bus, not the front or back like normal idiots!

I once saw one of those used as a getaway car after breaking into a chemists.

I managed to keep up with it long enough to get the number plate. Very rapid cars , though me being in a Ka didn't help.

There's quite a few of them on Ebay , some in good condition.

Well, that's a one-off in that colour. Even when they were new, I only ever saw pearl white, silver and black ones.

I had an X1/9 with poppy uppp headlights. Made me smile every time. Needless to say I flashed a lot of people out at junctions and hence smiled a lot.

Brimma……leave it!

I used to have one of these

Ford Escort RS 1600i in black.

Apart from the Recaros in my Rallye, the seats were the best in any car I've owned.

Well today's "rarity" ....

a Chrysler Neon

I really, really tried this time........

.............but it's not my fault you can't stop flashing

On the SVX, I sometimes see a white one about locally.

Also on the Jap theme, not many 300ZXs about that I see?

And also the ridiculously capable but unloved 3000GT from Mitsubishi:

So much tech it was untrue:
