Getting new car, not a Skoda

Featured Replies

I was asked this week if I wanted to palm my car off on to the new fella at work and get a new one, well what's man to say!?

Needed one sharpish so it's got to be something from stock, not French or Ford or Vauxhall, bigger than the Leon but not so big the government would tax away half my pay.

Audi, BMW, Merc too expensive for anything estatey as I do 25k miles a year.

Settled on this:

Mazda 6 2.2 185 Diesel Sport Hatch in White

It has:

Dual Climate

Bluetooth

Key Less Entry

Key Less Start

Auto Lights

Auto Wipers

Xenons

6 Disc in Dash MP3 compat' CD Player

Blind Spot Radar

Half Leather

HUGE boot

Only thing i'll have to sort is rear park sensors as i've had them the last five years and are so used to them.

Should be picking it up from Jennings at Sunderland Wednesday ish I hope so expect loads of photos next weekend.

So another one for the Briskoda Mazda Owners Club!

looks nice in white .

That's one mean looking motor

Keep us updated as to how it's going please

Blind spot radar?? Totally:confused:

Sensors in the rear light clusters light an LED in the door panel near the door mirrors if a car is along side. A review I've read says that they pick cars up from quite a distance so they are virtually always on  Time will tell if they are useful!

mmmmm.......sounds like a clever piece of kit

Should be fitted to LHD wagons to prevent sideswipes

Looks like you will be a Mod soon :D

That's a nice car - I like it alot.

That would be gorgeous if they hadn't ruined it by putting a black roof on it ;)

Its nice to see a decent 6 series, after the years of bland.

nice car like it

Thought you said you didn't want a ford :P

:D Yeh, essentially its a mondeo under the skin.

I drove a 2.2d 6 Sport estate three weeks back and whilst I was surprised it didnt feel quicker on the road, overall I thought it was excellent.

The blind spot radar thingy really impressed me - it even sounded an alarm when I tried to indicate into the next lane where there was already a car alittle further back! Driving normally its always active and just lights an led by the mirror housing to indicate its unsafe to move across - really effective when I tested it. :)

Great looking too - especially in white

That is very nice!

Great success! You can't go far wrong with Mazda. Lovely lookin car.

Thought you said you didn't want a ford :P

From the 4car channel4 web site, don't know how true it is:

Since Mazda is owned by Ford you would expect the new 6 to share a large number of its oily bits with the similarly sized Ford Mondeo.

This, after all, is a tried-and-tested method of saving development time and money. So when Ford created a brand new chassis to underpin the Mondeo and S-Max MPV, it naturally offered it to its Japanese bedfellow.

Mazda declined.

Then, a year on from launch, Mazda knew it needed to replace its ageing 2.0-litre diesel. Ford had just the ticket: an all-new 170bhp 2.2-litre co-developed with Peugeot.

Again Mazda politely refused. 'We knew we could do it better', explained one senior exec.

The all-new 2.2-litre diesel is the fruit of the brand's labour and is packed full of technology and new thinking.

Agree with that, I drove the demo car and it didn't feel as fast as my Leon although it has virtually the same performance specs. Hopefully it's going to be lot more comfortable over unforgiving roads!

Pretty sure the 6s (even the last one) are quite independent.

Nice choice :thumbup:but I prefer black :P

Ahh, thats interesting. I knew the engine was an in house development but I was sure I'd read the mondeo shared its chassis or under pinnings with the new six. I stand corrected. :)

Someone at work has just swapped his MX5 for a new 6.

Looks very nice in bright red.

Apparently he's pretty pleased with it.

Picking it up first thing tomorrow morning, hope I can get to sleep on new car eve :)

Been reading loads of reviews and so on on the net, instead of a spare wheel it has a Bose Sub! Not sure how useful that will be if I get a puncture so hopefully there will be some other solution to flat tyres! :)

Picked it up this morning and it's friggin' huge! It's so quiet and civilised compared to the Leon with a totally different power delivery. Done 100 miles in it today and it needs cleaning already :(

That looks stunning in White , as someone else stated , most decent spec cars do!

What happened to the hankerings for an exeo ?
