Thanks for the warm welcome, chaps. Truly one of the friendlier forums I visit :)

I had a quick lurk in the insurance "how much are you paying" thread but the page I checked out people were giving prices but not usually the insurers they got them with.

Will check back.

Thanks,

Mark

Methinks I feel a spreadsheet coming on.... Moderators how do we feel about gathering together some info from members (those who are happy to divulge their details - already lots of posts) and storing it on the site somewhere.....?

Caveats about currency of information, different personal circumstances, etc. would have to apply, but might help to give others an idea - at least of companies to try.

If that's OK, I'll suggest members PM me some details and I'll build up a table (names withheld) and put it somewhere accessible.

Hope to pick it up next Tuesday.

Howcome you have to wait a week to collect it?

It'll need to be serviced, valeted and registered, and they won't be able to register until they have insurance docs in their posession.

Mark

Mark is absolutely right, I am also having an alarm, sill protectors and after some argument front mud flaps. Many thanks to all those who replied to my thread on mud flaps a couple of months ago. The dealer and his senior technician did not want to fit them as they said they would catch on full lock. I was able to tell them about all the comments from actual owners of vRS s saying they were ok. I have agreed to eat large doses of humble pie if I

OH, I was planning on getting a cover note for a few days so i can drive it home and keep it in the garage before I arrange insurance. This would be suffiecient to register it right???:(

It may be enough to register it, but you can't drive it until it's taxed, and AFAIK you can only tax it from the day your insurance starts.

Why would you want to do this anyway??

The dealer can tax the car with a cover note, they need to tax it as part of the registration process, but how can you get a cover note without arranging insurance, unless you are considering a very short term policy? Also I know it is unlikely but if it is in a garage un insured if something were to happen to it you could be left with a large debt and no car. Sorry to keep being the voice of doom but you have to consider the risks of saving a few pound on your insurance.

Cover note to get tax? I've always been told by Direct Line that you can't get tax unless

you present *the* insurance documents (no faxes, photocopies, hand written notes, etc).

Rob.

I had to provide original insurance docs in order to get my new vRS (picked up today :D ) taxed/registered. Was told specifically by the dealer that faxes or cover notes would not be sufficient.

Regards,

Mark

You can normally get tax on a cover note. It may well be different for first registration though.

You can tax (or register a new car) with a cover note or certificate as long as it is the original and not a fax/photo copy etc.

This is a requirement of the DVLA and nothing to do with the dealer.

The reason i was not planning on driving/insuring the car right away is down to know whether or not i can get the policy in my mums name whilst the car is registered to me. Im in the middle of writing a letter to cancel my policy on the capri, but am going to request my insurance broker to visit and do a quote.

I forgot- road tax? does it come free or will i have to pay when i get the car?

Also am i suppose to declare 3 points on my liecense for speeding?

Also am i suppose to declare 3 points on my liecense for speeding?
Absolutely! Details of motoring convictions is a standard question on motor insurance proposal forms. Failure to declare points on a licence would almost certainly lead to the insurer cancelling the policy if they found out and blacklisting you.
the insurer could suffer a terminal sense of humour

LOL!!

12 months tax is included in the 'recommended on the road price' quoted in the brochure - however if you are not paying the brochure price it depends on what you negotiated with the dealer. Check your order form - it should be stated on there.

It'll be in there somewhere - they always include it either as part of the price you negotiate somewhere or as an add on. If you've signed an order form it should be on there, like Gasman says.
