Performance

Featured Replies

Hi, I am just new to the site. Its great by the way! I am thinking about maybe getting a Fabia vRS but just have a question really. I have a Astra SRI 1.8 at the moment, and book it does 8.5 to 60 standard. I am wandering if I am taking a step down performance wise by getting the vRS? I have been told the Fabia vRS 0-60 is about 9.5 but there are good gains to be made through re-mapping! Thanks in advance.

VAG group figures are very conservative... a well run in standard fabia RS will probably do 8.5 and then slaughter the astra midrange

i had a "play" with my dad when he had his sri 2.2, and my car was level to 60, and then started to pull away.

a remapped car can get high 6's to 60 :D

0-60 in the high 6's sounds good to me. If I get a vRS I will defo get a re-map just so I get a noticable difference in performance. I have had a race with a vRS before from a standing start and 0-60 I had him, but I do have a modded induction kit and he must have been standard.

0-60 notwithstanding, you'll get a noticable difference in performance with a standard one as well IMO. I've raced a 1.8 SRI up a hill before up to 90 and he started in front and finished behind ;)

Also Autocar got 7.2 seconds 0-60 on their roadtest, and however lucky it may have been, it still did it. It does take more skill to drive fast than a petrol, where you just rev the nuts off it.

I'd be amazed if the 1.8 does 8.5 to 60.

My old 2.0 16v Sport would probably just about crack 8.0 seconds, and the Octy would destroy it... ;)

Buy the Fabia, i'm sure you'll love it...

My 1600kg Mondeo with a chip to 170 bhp did a 1/4 mile 2.3 secs faster than a 1.8 SRi with a decat and kent cams. Now considering most vRS's as standard are around 145-150 bhp not 130 bhp and the Astra 1.8 only has 125 bhp as standard & the torque on the vRS is more likly to be around 240 lb/ft whereas on the astra it has 125 lb/ft and weighs in at 1250 and the vRS weighs in at 1315 you can see how much quicker a vRS is & when you have spent

Well put...

Sorry if i seem really dim, but.....

What do you mean by:

I am not saying your wrong i just need proff or a very good explanation!!

Skoda claim 130bhp figure for the engine.. but in reality this is just used as a minimum figure.. i would definately say that the engines probably have slightly more than the quoted power BUT.. i dont think its as much as the 145+

Read my signature and weep

Yep thats 146 bhp most make in the 145's as people have stated.

Torque is also quoted at 230ftlb.... yer right 240+ is more like it.

But what if you only get 142 on another RR?

its all subjective ;) i got 149bhp on dubsports rollers before revo :P

and now my 183bhp on a set of rollers where standard cars were only getting 132 on the same day? so i should get over 200 if i went on same rollers as you... :D

Agree with Colin - the engine must be at least 130bhp, but as they are tested under different conditions to rolling roads, you may find results vary :D The car does not excel at 0-60 runs as too much torque in 1st and 2nd will just spin the wheels - once the car is moving, however, it is pretty rapid through the mid-range which means overtaking is swift and effortless :D

Colin, I went to one and got 158bhp which was way way over. The rollers we went on had been calibrated recently so I know they are accurate. But yes you are right they might still be out but alot of other cars where making spot on stock power.
