Mcrae to drive for Skoda in 2005!

Featured Replies

Just read on text that Colin Mcrae could be driving for Skoda WRC next season.. should certainly test the strength of the cars!

Is this confirmed or just the reports that have been around for a few weeks ?

Hope this happens - it might mean the Fabia gets some TV coverage now ;)

Just read that article that you kindly posted on here Geoff, and oh I do hope it all comes to fruition! BIG C.M. fan.

Could be a few slightly damaged Skoda WRC parts up for grabs next year ey! :D

Please let it be true.

If Colin gets some results in the Fabia the effect to Skoda's image would be remarkable.

Just think what Subaru's image was back in the early 80's, rusty odd farmers cars.

And the difference now is ??? :D

Still are arn't they Lee!

Endorse your thoughts though.

Can Colin do the same for Skoda as he did for Subaru. ;) After all without him winning everything for Subaru in the beginning, they wouldn't be as popular as they now are.

With a big name driver on board, perhaps VAG would be more inclined to throw some more cash into the WRC Programme ;)

Would be nice wouldn't it?

Well as the Fabia is making regular top 10 appearences on a "limited" programme, a bit more cash could well make a lot of difference.

mmmmm! not sure if I want the same image as Subaru. One of the reasons I've got a Skoda is because they are a little bit different. Before you know it everybody will want one.

On the other hand it would be nice to see Skoda do well in the rallies for a change.

I'm not too sure whether to be indicisive on this one

AND wouldn't it be great to throw a computer game version of a fab WRC around the track on the next Colin McRae 6 Playstation/Xbox game???

I certainly think so.

I wonder if Colin's bitten the bullet and taken a pay cut? Last I heard he was expecting in the region of 10 million a year and not backing it up with any decent results.

Would also be good if he could put Skoda on the podium - they may produce a non-diesel Fabia WRC edition ;)

Chris

When he tested the FABIA WRC he had the Welsh Wizard (Nicky Grist) sat in the co-drivers seat.???????

:D:D:thumbup:

He was on euroSports coverage this weekend, saying there was no secret he had been Trying a Skoda. He liked it, and there was a slim chance it could happen!

Hope so. Would be only select rallies.

He was having a good chat with Nicky Grist, rumour has it that he will be McRae's co-driver

Thought McCrae disliked him intensely after the quick exit and early bath on the RAC  rally in 02

They must have kissed and made up :D

Apparently, so I heard from people that were there, McCrae's helicopter came and picked him up and left Grist standing by the roadside. McCrae was alledgedly very angry following a series of alledged blunders by his co driver.

Hi Guys n Gals, Im new on here ! Opinion in Mlada Boleslav, a team with such limited resources as Skoda doesnt give Colin a drive in one of only three works cars two days before Rally Catalunya and say "give it death" if theyre not serious about wanting him and vice versa. He"ll have to take a big pay cut though, cant double the budget by paying his old salary ! Schwarz is a great development driver but hes not in the current premiership, Gardemeister could be but the limiting factor is the Fabia just isnt fast enough.

- The worry is, with the exception of Finland/Paasonen, 8th has been best-case all year, maybe VW will pull the plug on WRC...a contact in Czech is making 50 sets of homologation exhausts for a works Fabia with 1600 16valve, is this going to be Super1600 ? Not at the expense of losing WRC I hope.
