Condensation - No Leaks, Dry Pollen, Clean Windows

Featured Replies

i know its been discussed a lot but what else can i do ! my doors dont leak, they used to but no longer and the carpets and mats are all dry, my pollen filter was dry as a bone but it was replaced anyway, and all my windows are clean........... i asked this before the forum went mental and my thread seems to have been lost, could my rear screen be my issue ?........where it should be solid black around the edge from the outside, ive got a ripple as though some kind of seal has gone ..................... ive looked around the scuttle panel and under it as best i can see, not took it off though, but its not full of leaves etc

Try leaving your air con switched on for 15 mins.Set the heater to warm and it shoud dry the interior out. Air con is good for drying condensation not only for cooling in summer.See how you go on. The interior may just be damp from previously.

set the air con to hot ? i didnt think air con 'did' hot ?

It will still dry the air which will in turn dry the interior our.

Yup, aircon will do hot air with drying effect. Try closing all dash vents at night and see it that helps. Make sure scuttle area is free of leaves and other debris. Damp air in the car (due to high humidity) will always condense on glass, as it is the coldest surface inside the car. Do you have cloth seats or leather? If cloth, consider a plastic seat cover for wet days, so damp from clothing doesn't get sucked into the seats.

my dash vents are always closed, would changing the direction setting from screen to feet have any effect, as mines near always set to screen

Yes. I think I posted that in your first thread, but if its been lost.

I found pointing it at the floor make a big difference, when its on the screen all the moiusture etc in the atmosphere will be blown onto the screen due to the wind etc.

what about using recirc ?

That could be quite a good idea for parking.

If it closes the flaps to the outside, it should stop any new air coming in at all.

Dunno what difference it makes when driving though.

where's the pollen filter? Is it easy to change?

iirc there's a plastic vent grill in the spare wheel well in the boot, make sure it's not full up with wet leaves

Put your head in the passenger footwell, and look up towards to underside of the glove box. On right right hand side, there is are two sliding tabs. Slide these away from each other and it should wriggle out.

No! You need fresh are coming in for it to work effectively. Air con is just a fancy name for a dehumidifier with a few modifications. And no don't point it at your feet if you want to quickly demist your windows, you need air that has been dehumidified (i.e. air with the majority of moisture removed hitting the window) However if you want to dry your car out then point it at you feet. Leave the AC on 1 or 2 at what ever temp you feel like while driving to work for a few days should sort it out.

Sorry, I meant if you were leaving the car overnight or something, to try and prevent it being misted when you get back to it, rather than when in use.

Didn't phrase it very well, or would the same still apply?

im confused aswell by that, any info would be great..........

i did mean set it to feet before i parked up, obviously id have it set to windows to demist the screen, could you go into more detail please P13SST as it sounds like you know what your talking about

If you are 100% sure you have no leaks, the AC will sort it out over time [if its working]. Best way to find out is to get out the power washer and wash the car. Then have a look for damp foot wells etc.

Are you absolutely sure your carpets are dry?? I thought mine were until I gave them a good thump and water started to appear!! Also if you do use aircon there will always be some moisture in the evaporator that will go straight on to the screen at startup, until the the aircon gets cold again to remove the moisture.

im finding puttin the air con on, on hot, and just before i switch off setting the vents to my feet, is helping quite a lot

ill check my carpets again but im pretty certain they are all dry

Turning on the Air Conditioning will remove excess moisture from the inside of the car while it is on. When we talk about humidity we in fact are talking about revertive humidity not the absolute amount of water carried by the air. This is because air can support more water vapor at higher temperatures. At lower temperatures the air can not hold as much water vapor and so the vapor will begin to condense causing liquid water droplets to form because the air is saturated. Turning up the heat will not remove water vapor from the air it will just lower the revertive humidity as the air can then support the vapor by dropping the relative humidity from 100% to a much lower value.. The reason why windows form condensation is because they lower the immediate temperature of the air at the air/glass interface and so raise the relative humidity to 100%, the point where water vapor changes its state from a vapor to a liquid.

Certainly it is a good idea to run the air-conditioning in the winter I always have mine on and rarely turn it off for a number of reasons such as lubrication of the equipment an essential maintenance, preventing bacterial growth and maintaining a pleasant environment with ideal relative humidity. It would make sense to run it for a little while before shutting off the engine if it has not been run this will help prevent excess water vapor from condensing on the windows however I would not turn the heat up, I would turn it down for reasons explained above. All that turning the heat up will achieve is to create a temporary condensation free environment and as soon as the temperature lowers the condensation will reform because the saturation point will have been exceeded and condensation will form again. While driving it helps speed up de-misting by razing the temperature assisting the air conditioning unit to do its job but not immediately before switching off.

Fabia has been suffering from condensation on inside of front screen, when left for long periods. Read on this site, to set heater to warm and turn on Air Conditioner and circulation to clear, and WOW !!! it really does work. Thanks a bundle for that suggestion.

its helped a lot on mine, also just used RainX Anti Fog, and it really works, not 100% although the last few days it has been, but even on a really bad day its a million times better
