The car you had with the highest mileage (petrol or diesel)

Featured Replies

So what was the car that you or maybe a family member had with the highest mileage ever....Mine was an 1996 N Registered Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 GLS Petrol when I got rid it had covered 187,000 miles, It was used as a taxi before me and had 121,000 on it when i got it... in the end everything kept breaking apart from the engine so it was costing lots and had to go.

My octy has now covered 79k so feel i have a good few miles left yet

I had a 1995 Astra 1.4 petrol got written off before it hit 100k

My Dad has a Passat 1.8 petrol with 120k on the clock

and my Felicia 1.6 petrol, head gasket failure at something like 112k I think

My Favorit 1.3 petrol has just under 60k at the moment. So a loooooong way to go

ATM, my Octy on just under 91_000 would be one of the highest (and my personal highest). My uncle's old Omega I think he sold for a new Passat TDi130 when the Omega was on about 150_000 (lots of trips to his son in Kent).

I once had an old Citroen ZX 1.9D which had nearly 150k on the clock when It died in a deep puddle!

Loved that car to bits! :)

It had a few kwerky things like If I had more than two people in the car the mud flaps would scrape on the floor.

The engine was bomb proof too and would take a thrashing all day long and still return 45mpg.

Also a few of the panels were, I believe made of aluminium or summat. Something which I discovered while trying to stick a magnetic "L" sticker on the boot while my sister was having a drive!

O/t but I think the ZX was all steel; the BX used plastics for the bonnet and tailgate though.

My old 205 Gti....had 120k when the head gasket went, so out came the motor, new clutch, gasflowed head, kent cams etc, used to thrash the knackers off it everywhere and it was still going strong at 180k when I sold it. I used to have problems with stuff like driveshafts, alternators, heater matrix etc but the motor was solid and didn't smoke even at 180k on the original pistons, rings and bores. The valve seats and oil seals got done when the HG went but that was about it...

My 306 had about 135k on when I sold it a couple of months ago - and that was mechanically sound.

My Passat PD130 also had 135k ish when I sold it, and that was mint!

My Mazda has 3875 miles on the clock :P

Nissan Primera's - had 2 of them, L and M reg (both 1.6 petrol), and both had done just over 125K when we passed them on, still going strong :)

My fabia's not long clocked over 100k, i bought it a year and half ago with 69k on the clock, yikes thats a lot of mileage in a year or so!

Never had to maintain the car though, other than good servicing nothing's ever gone wrong, even with the missus driving ;)

Well the tailgate definately wasn't steel as the magnet wouldn't stick to it!Not that O/T either! :)

Personal highest mileage was my Clio 182. I got it with 42k on the clock, got rid 4 months later as the gearbox went at 49k

Never had a high mileage car before so the 182 is the highest so far. Fabia just clicked over 40,380 so loads of miles left in it

ZX had a plastic boot on some versions :)

Ones I know of are:

A BX 19RD run to 250k miles before ULSD killed the fuel pump seals causing it to leak. It wasn't worth repairing due to the cambelt being covered in fuel.

306 XUDt run to 140k miles (ish) before it got written off by another drive.

1.8 TDCI focus is around the 150k miles mark too and still going strong.

My ZX had a plastic boot - someone went into the back of mine and cracked it neatly in two from top to bottom, it was only the rear windscreen holding together, was rather wobbly.

There was a problem with people fitting bike carriers to them which then came off taking two bits of plastic out of the top of the hatch, the proper citreon one had really wide brackets where it attached to the top of the hatch.

Oops! I used to use a cycle carrier on the back of mine! Lucky I didn't break it then.

Years ago i bought a h reg vauxhall astra "starmist" as a cheap runaround with 118k on it,it sadly got wrote off 2 & a bit years later with 172k on it,it was the 1.6 8v petrol engine. My octy is on 117k now.

My dads Range Rover has 185,000 on it. We used to have a Volvo with went over 250,000.

My uncle currently has an N reg astra estate which is just about to cross 300,000 - it has become a challenge as to how long he can keep it - it has just passed its MOT.

Bloody hell. 300k! Not bad.

I have been in an old E300 diesel merc abroad with the equivalant of 500k on it!

Where I used to work many years ago, Eddie the van driver had a Merc van which had 600k on it, it had only had a clutch and basic servicing. That was when I joined the company. Two years later he was still using it, gawd knows how many miles was on it at that point because he was out in it all day every day doing deliveries.

  • 3 months later...

I'm on 268k with my 2001 Fabia SDi. According to Honest John there's a volvo in the US with over 2 million miles on it, so hopefully the Fabia will keep going for a long time yet.

Think I had about 130k on my mk2 Golf. After I wrecked the Golf, half the engine lived on in my Jetta.

My Dad's Volvo 940 (Audi 2.5 turbo diesel) was over 350k I believe when he got rid of it. I'm pretty sure it had an engine rebuild at 200 odd thousand though and when he ditched it I think it was in need of more major engine work. I remember him turning up pick me up in insane clouds of smoke.

Our Old' folk's 05' Ford Transit 2.0 TDCi 125 - was replaced by the company at 186,700 miles in December 2009 (He's a service engineer, not a Courier by the way!)

BMW 520i, sold that with just under 140K on it. Latest high mileage car was my Mondeo 2.0 GhiaX Auto, commuter hack which I sold at just under 150K miles.

K reg Rover 216sli, bought 6 months old with 8,000 miles on from auction as ex-rental car. Sold after 3 years with 126,000 miles on. Changed the wiring loom once and the oil every 6 months, never spent another penny on it. Knocked by everyone but best car I ever owned til I got the Furby. Was still running 2 years later, when it looked in good nick being driven round Salford by a young lad.
