Fabia vRS alarm removal

Featured Replies

Hey everyone!

I just removed the alarm from my VRs as it was rattling about and no amount of tightening would hold it solid. Just wondering if there could be any problems with the car "confusing" itself with the alarm unit missing? Would it be worthwhile getting the alarm system disabled with Vagcom if thats possible?

Thanks for any suggestions!

It should be fine but you should take it to local alarm fitter they will disable it for you, and i don't think you need vagcom to disable it but i am not sure.

Sorry to bring bad news, but you will have probably invalidated your insurance by doing this. I would notify your insurers soonest.

I would love to know what was rattling, the alarm module, or the alarm sounder. Seems rather drastic hacking out a security feature to fix a rattle. Plus as mentioned, your insurance will be invalid, as you have reduced to cars security to immobilizer only. That counts as a Thatcham downgrade.

Yes mate, as said, you must tell your insurance company asap unless you get it back on there soon.

If it gets broken into or damaged, your insurance company will just walk away.

What was causing the rattle then?

Ben

Just out of curiosity where is the Alarm and components located?

Module is in the scuttle panel, sounder near the exhaust to the rear.

As already mentioned, you must tell you insurance company asap as your insurance is now invalid. What you have done is remove a key security component and posted that you have done so in a public forum. Your insurance premium was based on the car having a thatcham approved alarm and imobiliser and you have just invalidated the thatcham rating and removed something the insurance company assume the car has, which has in affect made it easier to break into and steal either the car or items from it. The vRS is already enough of a theft target without making it easier for the thief. As a result of the increased risk the insurance company will increase your annual premium due to the increased payout risk.
