Need a new clutch yet?

Featured Replies

How many peeps have had to replace their Octy's clutch and how many miles had you covered up to this point? Mine needs a new one at 40K. (Of course a tweeked engine and driving style might have something to do with it)...

I know of a forum member who's had his clutch fail "under warranty" (2nd hand dealership warranty) and it's been a fight to get the job done under warranty. I think the final saga is on it's home run, and he has posted about it.

They do seem to go though :(

Let's see how many miles I get out of mine :D

The one on my Vrs went at about 13K, due to a casting fault in the pressure plate, I was told. Then it wore out at about 50K.

I've had 3, 2 on the old RS and 1 on the SDI.

50k, 110k & 23k

:D

I have never had to change the clutch on any car I have owned. The closest was a clutch cable on my first car a 10 year old MK3 Escort. I tend to do about 80K in each car (often not from new) before changing.

Still on my original clutch, 73k......

(and they say 4wd puts more load on a clutch??)

mine was replaced @ about 50k :)

Were your old RS clutches up-grades or standard OE jobbies, not many miles out of your SDI, surprising perhaps?

First one that lasted 50k was standard, replaced it with an uprated one with lightened balanced (single mass) flywheel. That one died after holding the car on the clutch for 5 minutes  That actually made it explode and bend the flywheel :D

The SDI one, lets just say it couldn't handle the torque, replaced with a standard one as I couldn't find an uprated one that was 240mm and could handle over 450nm of torque. Now found one that can, so I'll be getting one when this one dies :D

Usefull thread on Briskoda shocker!

Lee, Mine is thinking about going..if I welly it, it feels wierd ;)

48k on the clock.

I am waiting for JBS to finish testing a dual mass uprated one, has carbon in there somewhere, IIRC it was around the 300notes marker and good for a 300bhp+ mod...if we still had pound notes.

Pah, get single mass flywheel. Revs pick up quicker :D Downside is that idle is a gnats whatnot more uneven ;)

Mine is on its last legs at 76k and some trouble parking at Prescott during the RPM tour in March. Doesn't really slip (except after the above parking episode) but it's right at the top of the travel and it doesn't really bite all that fiercely any more.

I've just had mine replaced after 30k miles, the springs started popping out and it's basically been ripped apart. The dealer reckoned I'd been doing some fast gear changes, as in track use :D so it wasn't covered under warranty.

I got a Sachs replacement clutch and lightened flywheel from Impossible Performance (thanks Michael  ) for a lot cheaper than the price my dealer wanted to charge for an inferior oe clutch.

Now everything's fine, just got to set up my KW2's

I have been towing and have noticed a difference in the way the clutch bites and its travel, only done 24k. This is not a good advert for the vw audi group is it? I have heard that in America owners of vw passats are taking legal action against vw because they will not address early wear under warrenty.

My last car was a 2 ltr Octavia 99 model clutch started to show wear and judder at only 40k and had to be replaced at 55k.

I had a Cavalier which had done over 90k when I got rid and had no clutch problems, dont get me wrong Im very happy with my octavia in every other way and consider them to be a quality car which is why I have had two.

Have the people who are running this forum raise the many concerns by its members regarding the clutch issue to Skoda or the vw group?

Upto 46k miles now and still going strong.

I use my Octavia in Russia.

My car is just 30000 kilometers (aprox 20000 miles) and it has 3rd clutch!!!!

first one i changed at 4000 miles, after 1500 miles they changed me a gearbox (under warranty) and they placed new clutch. now its 20000 miles and clutch already starts to slip!!!

I do all I can to save the clutch (no fast starts, no unnecessary usage). What is the hell wrong with my Skoda?

99 MY 1.6.

60,000 and its starting to judder on take up, so probably on way out.

Bought the car with 26000, at 28000 the clutch burnt out!

Mind you was doing 1/4 runs at the time with 190bhp and 200lb torque. Replacing it with helix clutch.

76000 and still gooing strong!

the clutch on my 4x4 went at around 95k, that was with lots of towing aswell. and even when it did go it wasn't the plate that went but the thrust bearing instead which in turn knackered the plate with over heating

Just under 50,000 and the bite is getting both vague and high, so I think a replacement is on the cards soon. I'd expected a lot longer, as most of my miles are on the motorway, although the queues on roundabouts on the way home might have something to do with it. What sort of cost should I expect (1.9 TDi Octavia)?

My clutch is said version from my friends at Impossible (a la Sachs) 63k and still as good as ever!!

Not sure at what mileage it was fitted (ask Des) but was certainly at less than 33k!! :D
