Yeti "flash and wave"?

Featured Replies

Coming from a New Beetle, where "flashing and waving" oncoming New Beetles is customary in the hope of a similar response (and from Old Beetles and Type 2s if you are lucky), Mrs Brock tried the same today with the first Yeti we have seen on the road, and got an enthusiastic response! It was on the A4 in Thatcham and was probably Silver or Muscovado. Anyone on here? And should this be a Yeti custom too (safety and road conditions permitting, of course)?

My dad had the original Beetle and it was customary to flash and wave even in those days. emoticon-0100-smile.gif

This is something that is also done by smart car owners like myself and so I would be happy to join in if this also becomes accepted practice amongst SMOemoticon-0144-nod.gif

They do that waving thing in Landrovers as well for some strange reason. I thought it rather strange and ignored it unless it was for a roadside favour, letting pass, recognising, that sort of thing. If you park a Landrover in a car park, come back and usually their would be others parked close to i. It is a little like camping, no matter what ever quiet area one might choose someone would soon enough pitch close to even though their would be other suitable quiet places.

My first car was a 'proper' Beetle and having had a smart as well am well tuned to the (headlight) flash and wave - only snag is seeing another Yeti so far..!

Let's be clear about the terminology here. I presume we are talking about flashing headlights..... :giggle:

I must admit I've not been in the flashing and waving mode since I owned a Saab 96, so it will be a novelty !

The Yeti is a very elusive creature shy and secretive. Very seldom seen even by believers, they are rumoured to be wondering the streets of Britain but their have been no known sightings. :x

Good point. I was worried that flashing in this weather would lead to frostbite :giggle:

It is OK and legal so long as you do it on the Off Side Rear Wheel! :rain: :p

NO....please.....NO...."flash and wave" is cringetastic!!

I have an old Land Rover and generally wave to others but not to shiny new ones. In fact I thnk twice about waving at ones without leaf springs.

However I agree with octy888 it's cringeworthy with a new vehicle.

cringeworthy indeed and if yer have zenons up front the local eyeball clinic might see an increase in business!

I think the older 90 & 110s fitted in the flash & wave catagory, but I agree the new shiny ones don't. I used to get some funny looks when I first went from my '87 90 V8 CSW to a Ford Bronco (american import) and out of habit continued to wave at land rover owners.

If I see another yeti on the road I'll be sure to wave too (when I eventually get mine delivered).

When I had my Skoda Rapid it was the done thing to wave/flash to other Rapid owners!

Monster still appears to be on her own over here in the East Riding, so practised on an unsuspecting Superb II driver going the other way (only one of those I have seen round here, other than a visit from my Dad in his). Probably confused the hell out of him. So if it was you apologies :D .

simerlar with the old moggys too, but bit diferent to do, had to flick the lights switch on and hit the floor mounted hi/low beam switch and turn the lights back off again lol.

OT - An aside......

Contrary to published info, the Yeti with xenon light do not have a separate halogen flash bulb for signalling with the lights - it uses the xenons.

The initial spark light-off flash is very effective at getting Burka drivers to move over, so you can pass. B)

Really wakes them up as the snow on the rear window all of a sudden turns brilliantly WHITE.

Oh, this takes me back, apart from nodding at other bikers (but not scooters) when I'm on my Virago it must be thirty years since I drove a vehicle where owners would wave and flash. I say vehicle because it was a Reliant three wheeler. My excuse is that I only had a motorcycle license at the time and we needed a vehicle that could carry passengers and stuff. We were commiserating with other owners more than anything else.

I was coming home on saturday travelling towards the M3 when towards a white monster appeared , I flashed which responded in a toot and a wave so I agree , be friendly to all yeti keepers

P.s was unsure about white but they do look good however still love my steel grey

Seen a black Elegance 140 BHP on a 10 plate parked outside Wallasey golf club. Looks very nice, the black bumpers look good on it. Glad I dont have to clean it though. B)

Sorry, must have duble tapped the return key..... :giggle:

Ive had 3 Old Beetles and those were the last cars Ive ever had a flash/wave scenario happening! I dont have a Yeti but I think you guys/gals should get it going. Loving the favourable write ups that Evo mag is giving for your cars by the way , and the guys from Evo threw the invite to the Yeti launch in the bin when it came as well - just shows you how wrong you can be sometimes , as Ive never known Evo go overboard like this on a 'normal' car before , and Ive been reading it since issue 1!
