Drove the Golf GTD today!

It might though be the reverse of what you are thinking. Maybe its a noise cancelling system using an electromechanical device to play low frequency engine noise 180 degrees out of phase. If it works you would then hear only the more pleasing engine noises familiar to those who drive petrol engines.

This explanation makes a lot more sense. The idea of "playing" a different engine note through a speaker just doesn't add up.

So will it be possible to remap the sound generator to load in a different sound sample...?

Like celebrity Tom Tom voices you would be able to download your favourite engine sound such as V12 Ferrari, V8 Chevy, Dragster jet car, Rolls Royce Merlin!!

Merlin engine would be cool . . .

Or for diesel owners you could have the windmill from Trumpton . . .

What's the point of all these high-revving V-engined petrol sounds when your tractor engined Golf only revs to 4,500? :notme:

This makes me chortle heartily!

Might have to have a test drive

chortle heartily...........i'm p1ssing my pants

Rumor has it that its making its way into the FL RS CR...

I suppose you could unplug it.

If this happens would you Still buy a cr rs?

I like the golf but as been stated above its alot more money than the Octavia and how much better it is really? Is it worth the difference? Plus VW lost a sale as I went to the dealership and asked for info pack, no we only and a limited stock we could be you on the list for it. Funny enough 2 months later still had not heard anything!

Going off topic but VW has lost a sale now 3 times because of how "snobbie" the show rooms are! Skoda has won twice now and seat won one..........still keep it in the family!

funny you should say that, I've felt all VW dealers tend to be snobby when I had my passat, so I was very suprised to find audi dealers are the complete oposite, friendly, can't help you enough and unlike skoda dealers, if you want a drink you dont just get pointed in the direction of a naff coffee machine in the corner

It sounds ridiculous.

Quite!

If I wanted a car to sound like it has a petrol engine, I'd buy one with a petrol engine! I buy a diesel engined car, partly 'cos I like the sound of it as a diesel.

Merlin engine would be cool . . .

I'd prefer a Comet 4B

I found Audi to be very helpful aswell and will agree some skoda dealerships are less than helpful and friendly. Shame I've not been in one VW dealership where they have actually bother to following anything up or send me out the details.

SWMBO's Mum works for Caffyns and the saying goes "four rings on the bonnet, four grand on the price" emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I have to say it does help that my local Skoda Service Centre is >not< a Skoda dealer - Rivervale in Portslade. Merc, Smart, Mazda. Customer Service is outstanding and you get a Merc as a loaner!

Went into a Jagura dealership before christmas and got bought a very nice cup of coffee and a very nice bit of fruit shortbread. The whole sealership experience made the audi dealer I had just been in loo like a used car forecourt.

I've not had a good experience with an Audi dealer, they seemed to judge me due to my shorts and hoodie

better than the ford dealer I got when I was bought my Mazda a few year back, was looking at the ST and basically the salesman thought I was pulling his leg, 20 year old, looks more like 12 and wanting to sign on the line for a focus ST anyway that was evans halshaw and ended up going to a GK Group dealer instead and got tempted by the mazda 6

This was Cardiff and Preston Audi. Newport, Cardiff and Preston VW aren't particularly helpful. Newport is good for parts though (it's separate, and not a little desk staffed by a lone idiot). Newport Skoda are brilliant, as are Preston, but Cardiff are terrible. Cardiff Ford are quite good, Cwmbran Ford are superb, and Preston Ford is rubbish, the staff are very pushy.

The only patterns I've found are bad Audi and VW dealers. But it's all hit and miss really!

Wow this topic has morphed. My quick dealer sales experiences...

Sytner BMW in Sheffield - WAY too pushy. Blatently lied about finance. Should have reported to FSA.

Stratstone BMW in Chesterfield - Nicer people, good prices, but lost sale due to not being interested in giving a remotely realistic trade-in price on my Octy.

Sytner BMW in Coventry - Despite being ready to do a cash deal on a nearly new 5 series (I was newly self-employed with a lucrative contract and feeling quite flush), they treated me like crap. Because I wasn't prepared to accept a car without through load system, the utter ****** of a salesman (a horrible, horrible little loser) seemed to think I wasn't serious about buying.

Hatfields Jaguar in Sheffield - Excellent experience - despite being only 21 at the time and going in looking quite scruffy, they were really good with me.

Bickerton Skoda in Sheffield - Good so far (awaiting car). Sales people amiable, offered long unaccompanied test drive, have called me when they said they would, decent coffee machine, refreshing to be offered an attractive deal up front with no haggling.

Gilder VW in Sheffield - Pretty good - got decent test drive without booking ahead. Did fail to call me back about something though.

GK Fiat in Sheffield - Fine.

Listers Audi in Coventry. Large stock of nearly new cars all with truly epic swirl marks, RDS and hologramming. I was the only potential customer in the showroom and I saw approx 20 staff who seemed to be surfing the web or chatting amongst themselves. Nobody even acknowledged me despite being there quite a while and being smartly dressed. The same dealer's body shop was very good when I used it though.
