About to Order a FL VRS 2.0TDI CR DSG - Advice Needed

Featured Replies

Hi All

Been a lurker on here for a while but now looking to buy a Skoda.

Having trawled through the forum I have a couple of questions:

  • Does the VRS come with Maxidot as Standard? I think it is a dealer ploy to get more money
  • Is the Bluetooth worth £500 or shall I just fit my Nokia kit?
  • Does the VRS come with Floor Mats as standard? Again few easy ££'s for the dealer
  • Would changing the Bolero to Columbus be really plug & play?
  • Is the VW VAGCOM the same as the Skoda one? (I Have a lead)
  • Do you get low washer warning? Important as I am having xenon's so will use more water!

Also torn between the red, grey and blue. The common'ness of blue has put me off but it seems that every man and his dog are ordering the grey.

The cheapest deal I have found is off Drive the Deal knocking £1600 off the dealer price. Anyone got any horror stories from these and how quick would they be to process the order because I also need to order before 31st Jan to get the 0% credit deal.

So I am looking at getting

DSG

Bluetooth

Xenon's

Heated Seats

Rear Parking Sensors

Full size Spare

Auto dimming mirror

And Maxidot and mats if these aren't included.

Any help is much appreciated.

bluetooth is good I have it fitted to mine, is it worth £500 only you can decided that. But it works well and the voice rec. (which I only found out about yesterday!!) works fairly well as long as you give clean commands.

My vRS came with mats so I'm guessing its a yes.

Yes you do get a washer low warning light and with niibe I get a message on the maxi-dot asking me to fill her up.

I would suggest going to your local dealer and seeing if they will match it or atleast get close to it, PowerMac used drive the deal (I think) and so have a few others. All seem to have had no major problems.

I know Malborough deals with drive the deal which is in Isleworth.......personally I would not use them as they are not helpful at all.

Thanks for the fast reply - need to make my mind up on bluetooth - depends on if the maxidot is standard or not with the DSG as it will work out £500 instead of £390 for the bluetooth.

...goes off the google where Isleworth is!!

Here is the reply from Skoda UK:

Dear Chris,

Thank you for your information request.

I can confirm that MAXI-DOT comes as standard with the DSG option on the Octavia vRS.

Once again, thank you for your request.

I have sat in a manual VRS that didn't have maxidot.

I considered DSG (which as stated does come with Maxidot) but have read that it doesn't really suit the CR unit as well as the petrol.

I've driven my mother-in-law's Golf GT with DSG a lot, whilst I have been impressed with the smoothness I found it a little frustrating. In economy mode it was sluggish and very keen to change up. In sport mode it was very sharp & keen to go for the red-line before shifting. I tend to drive somewhere between the two so ended up using the manual option...so why pay the premium for a box that 1/ weighs more 2/ Produces more CO2 3/ Isn't as ecconomical? It didn't make sense to me, so I went for leather seats instead!

Good luck...mine arrives on Wednesday! :)

Thanks for that - Test drove a GTD with it and was really impressed. I also read somewhere that it learns your driving style too so may take a few k to bed in. I am also lazy!

Thats great about the maxi dot then - think I will go through drivethedeal if the dealer doesn't phone me today which he said he would but I don't know which colour to go for!!

I went for DSG as thereis very little difference in CO2 and mpg. Only had it a week and can not fault it, smooth and always in the right gear. Bear in mind that a multi function steering only comes on the DSG not manual.

Definitely go for factory BT, I got my order changed after I realised how intergarated it is. At the time I had opted for Maxidot so adding BT was only £300 more after no VAT and discount, a Fiscon BT would be at least that

The only colour to go for is Corrida Red, honest I am not biased!! Save yourself £400 as well.

If you have not ordered by tonight, I can e mail some photos of mine when i get home.

Price..... Get a price from DTD and go to few dealers and see if they can match it. I did that and found a local dealer who got within £250 which I accepted

Cheers for that - I really like the red but the boss doesn't! Definately going to dsg but the £500 for the BT is the sticking point for me..How much is it to buy an oem unit off ebay or something? Do you get a cradle with it? I generally only make and receive the odd call so dont know if I can justify it when I can extract the nokia kit out of mine and it will also charge the phone!!

So I get Maxi dot with the DSG, now what about mats?! :)

As stated by polocoupe they come as standard but if you want rubber ones then that's a £26 (eBay OEM) option

Doh - Teach me for not reading properly.

Going to phone dealer in a bit see what they can do but i doubt they'll move on the price...

In the meantime if anyone wants a 54 Reg Bora Highline......!

Doh, I'm starting to feel persecuted now but at least all the OPs questions have been answered and it hasn't yet gone into a diesel v petrol thread

PS. I've just noticed on that same site what the fashionable people in Worcester are buying:-

Does the VRS come with Maxidot as Standard? I think it is a dealer ploy to get more money - Not sure, I paid extra on mine, but it appears that later orders it was included....

Is the Bluetooth worth £500 or shall I just fit my Nokia kit? - That's up to you and your phone. I have an iphone and decided to have a Fiscon unit fitted afterwards as I know the iphone doesn't have the rsap profile that Skoda say is required.... The fiscon unit uses normal handsfree profile and works a treat

Does the VRS come with Floor Mats as standard? Again few easy ££'s for the dealer - I didn't order any and mine came with floormats

Would changing the Bolero to Columbus be really plug & play? - Possible coding change and I'm assuming you'd need a GPS antenna plugging in somewhere

Is the VW VAGCOM the same as the Skoda one? (I Have a lead) I don't know for certain, but I expect so

Do you get low washer warning? Important as I am having xenon's so will use more water! - I believe if you order Xenons then you get a larger washer bottle and the warning light. I didn't and don't and miss it, As far as I'm concerned washer warning lights should be standard on all cars as at least if you get some warning you can pull over and top up and not end up with a smeared windscreen you can't see out of!!!

Thanks for that - I have a nokia so not a problem - It appears you only get maxidot on dsg presumably so it shows your current gear in the display. I agree about the washer warning especially as most cars have the washer bottles hidden!

The standard display also shows the gear on a DSG car... I ordered in September and it appears that as from October, the DSG comes with Maxidot and the manual you have to pay extra...
