Retro Fit Auto Dim Mirror to Elegance Spec

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy an original auto dimming mirror and fit it to an Elegance spec Superb II that does NOT come with one?

I am looking at purchasing one, and would like to know this.

I have done a search on here, done a search for Retro Fit Passat Submarine Lighting, and that has come up with something. Anyone one know if it WILL work? - Garage seems to think not.

Kind regards

I would have thought that an elegance model would have come with this as standard, as here in the rep of ireland, the auto-dimming rear view mirror, with rain sensing wipers comes as standard from the comfort spec, right through to the elegance spec., and i was under the impression that our cars were of a lower spec to those on sale in the uk due to the high levels of vrt, applied on cars.

No it's an optional extra on the Elegance spec about £55 from memory.

If you have the correct mounting plate on the screen then its easy. You might have the correct one if you have rain sensing wipers already? Post a pic of your mirror if you need confirmation.

I went for it as a option since i had it on my last car , in that case it was automatic and worked very well , I'm not impressed by the Superbs one at all

I agree waste of £50!, does not dim enough.

Man the UK cars seems very badly spec'd against the Rep of Ireland cars...i just had a look at the YETI Ire spec vs Uk spec...

It's amazing isn't it ? , for years cars with irish spec, were at a much lower level than a uk model, skoda this time round seems to be changing things in a big way, yet something simple as locking wheel nuts, now no longer comes as standard, (or so i am lead to believe ), still waiting to check a 2010 delivery myself, to see if this is true.

So would those of you who have the Auto Dimming rear mirror advise against it?

I see no point in it and wouldnt spec it again , however i wouldnt go to the trouble of removing it from a car thats its fitted to

It does take some time to react to headlights in the rear vision, and isn't that great at daylight change over neither, but if you do a lot of night driving, I would recommend it.

I do quite a bit of night driving and do find it useful - though I agree it doesn't react quickly enough. Another gripe would be that in the handbook there is an asterisked bit (which means that it may be there as an option depending on spec and country etc) on auto dimming door mirrors.

It is a pity that when the factory fitted option of the rear view mirror is put in, they cannot add the door mirror feature as a package. May put the option cost up a bit - but I don't see the point in trying not to be blinded by someone's poorly adjusted light beams in the RVM only to then loose night vision from seeing the same lights in the door mirrors.

I agree that is is quite surprising what comes as standard in other countries/republics. Seems spec wise - we are being a bit hard done by in UK. - I suppose the answer is go buy a Skoda in mainland Europe and then import back to UK if you want a better choice of spec/trim etc.

Yea i just collected my new car had the locking wheel nuts through the parts department....

I'm resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has successfully retrofitted an auto dim RVM to a Superb Elegance

My car already has the auto lights and wipers with some sort of sensor mounted on the screen.

I had this feature on my VRS and got quite used to it.

Is it a question of just putting the mirror on the stalk and feeding power to it or is it much more involved

I know at least one member who has fitted the mirror, they are not a regular poster on the forum. He provided me with the wiring diagram and parts list as I was looking into it. I still have not got around to buying and fitting as it is quiet complicated.

I have it in my 2009 Hatch and have ordered it for my 2012 Combi, I wouldn't be without it - I find it very effective. Looks as if I am in the minority though. It is switchable and I can immediately notice the difference when the car has been cleaned and they have switched it off. It is as good as the one in my last Audi A4.

It's very useful and I'm glad I've got one, but it should be standard equipment on the Elegance spec, not an extra.
