Help, new car ordered - Now dealer wants more money!

Featured Replies

Good result for you, and well done for not paying the extra when first asked. It is however a shame to think that having bought cars from this dealer in the past, that your loyalty to him, was not worth him writing his mistake off,

after all, i wonder how many people, on being told this story, might approach another dealer, when changing their car, and the he will have lost more that his original mistake of £1300.

Congratulations mate

Keep us informed about the dealer's reaction etc...

I've been reading a few threads recently about so-so dealers and shoddy new Skodas. Let's hope it's just the miserable weather! Everything works so much better when it's warm and sunny, and we could all do with a bit of that ;)

Wayhey! Result! :D

Now go sock it to 'em!

Great result, let us know how you get on when you break the news to the dealer.

Well you in the right. Lets see how long it takes to get the car. They may op to refund you in the hope you won't bother to chase the difference on an other car.

I doubt they'll refuse to sell you it then and offer the refund tbh, you need to remember even if they lose money on the sale of this one car, they will most likely make it up with a sales bonus or similar.

Good on you for sticking to your guns.

Great outcome - CAB was a good move

Have you told them yet? :D

B)

Waiting for the dealer feedback!

WHICH DEALER???!!!

Chat politely to the dealer and say that you don't think they have a leg to stand on.

If they suggest you have to pay more and don't back down, send the letter special delivery as then you have a fully tracked proof of delivery.

Have sent a letter off today, 1st class recorded, so hopefully it will get there by tomorrow morning or by monday. Would love to be there to see their faces when they read it. :moon:

For those of you who want me to name the dealer, I shall wait till the matter is concluded, however as a big clue, some of you may well have met up with them almost a year ago, when they had a get together, they are often on this site and are in fact a site sponsor! so hopefully will have read the comments that have been posted on here. It would be interesting if they were to post a comment............

Not good publicity - will be interesting to see the response

Well... it's either:

Allams or Pulman then!

Me thinks the dealer is trying to recoup (at your expense) the percentage paid to the credit card company!!

Looks like it'll work out. The strange bit for me is that going by your original post, you seem to have ordered at the same time as us- you're expecting a March 1st delivery, but we've just been told it'll be at least mid-April til we get ours (1.4 elegance est)

Not being a fussy git, I usually turn up at the dealers around 1st week of Feb, after being mugged by the taxman, and as I just want standard spec elegance 1.9tdi estate, so I just ask them whats available for march 1st delivery, and what colours. Because its standard spec, I have never failed in getting one, they usually have a black or silver somewhere in the system, but I have been through most of the colours that are available. This one will be my third silver and was already at the dealership.

According to Royal Mail, my letter arrived yesterday, so if everything goes well I should get a response early this week.

The percentage for the credit card company is about 3%? Am I right? Why do they accept this in the first place? This is more or less what they have as a benefit from deal. If not then a big part of it. hm.

Success!

That letter seems to have done the trick, the dealer has backed down, apologised for embarrassing me and putting me in an uncomfortable position and are prepared to honour the original deal, as I am a regular customer, so I have to give credit to them, for doing so.

However, they did claim that they have the right to cancel, as stated in their terms and conditions of the contract........................................................funny that there appears to be no mention of this on the contract that we signed, either on the front or back. Surely, their T & Cs should be clearly stated on the paperwork, or at least given a copy of the T & Cs.

Never mind, got it sorted in the end, just 2 weeks left to go to collecting the new car. Cant wait.

I know some of you wanted me to name the dealer, and I said I would once concluded, (and I did leave a couple of clues to their identity), however I am not sure if I should reveal their identity as they will be honouring the original deal and am not sure if it would be harmful to my relationship with the dealer if I was to out them on here.

Thanks to everyones input on this matter.

Result :D

A good result & I would tend to agree on not naming the dealer, I cant see it doing anyone any good.

...And considerig one of those dealers is based in the North East, the other the South East and the OP:

I am based on the out skirts of South London, and some of you may well have met the dealer concerned last year......................

You mischievous scamp Babs

I know... I know... :notme:

The dealer has no right to cancel the contract - he's already taken your money! If this is Allams then that's several years of good reputation blown right there...
