The ARP bolts I ordered still haven't arrived but I'm hoping they will by wednesday. If not I can still get the gearbox removed and crown wheel off the OEM diff in the mean time. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan!

Well mine is on now along with the Sachs clutch and thanks to JKM.

Haven't been able to fully test it out yet but will let you know how it goes

get out there and get abusing the car. Nice warm weather, LSD and 330hp. you should be having a great time lol. Unless your running ditch finders lol

 I am waiting on the opportunity as the road gods have been against me over the weekend and this morning. I am running Vredestein Centos at the moment which are pretty good in this weather. They are very much summer tyres though and were a bit of an issue over the winter when the temp was below 7 degrees. I'll be investing in some winter tyres next time!!

@Harry - well have had some limited opportunity to test the Quaife ATB out and so far so good  It is pretty much as I expected - driving along normally and, of course, you wouldn't know it was there. Push it through a roundabout where the car would lose a bit of stability and understeer would 'chatter' normally and the car simply goes where you point it. Similarly, I have a nice little point on my commute where a dip leads in to a tightish bend and then immediately ascends - I always had this marked as my testing point for the diff even before I got it because of the way the car's balance was thrown to one side and I tended to understeer even at slightly elevated speeds...again, the car behaved impecibly and just went where I pointed it with very little 'drama'.

In fact, it is the lack of drama that has been a pleasant surprise - I heard Quiafe's being related to traditional diffs in terms of torque steer but I just haven't seen that (seems a fair bit better in that respect!). I also heard recommendations to hold on tight to the wheel because of the tendency for the gripping wheel to kick in and snatch the steering wheel - again, I haven't experienced anything like steering being "snatched" from my grip. I have found it all very reassuring!

The caveat here is that I have been building up carefully as I try to gain confidence of what this thing can do and where the limits are and haven't got to that point yet. I am also breaking in a new clutch. Also, we have had some pretty good weather where traction has been favourable anyway!!

I am less sure about straight line traction. Perhaps my expectations were a little too high here as I heard of great benefits on the forums. There is definitely improvement but when we are putting over 300 bhp through the front wheels traction in lower gears is going to be an equal problem across both wheels of course and the ATB, as you know, needs one of the wheels to be gripping to do 'it's stuff' .

All in all I am very happy and the smile gets bigger as my confidence grows and I put it more and more to the test - no surprise that, unless some sprited driving is used, the Quaife won't show itself or its worth.

Cheers,

Dave

you'll get more of that in the wet. It'll give you the effect of torque steer as the diff repeateably transfers the torque around trying to find traction. I almost dragged VWRacings golf into a kerb when i nailed it in the wet. the road was bumpy as well which no doubt didnt help. Still better than no LSD though.

ref straight line traction, i think most guys fitted R888s along with the LSD for the 1/4 miles so no doubt that contributed to the forum talk

I'm actually debating whether it's worth it or not now...

oh it is, i drove my car down there after the VWracing golf and despite having 50Hp less i was spinning up like a mad man

I think you are right and I'll be taking it a little bit careful when testing it in the wet!!

The tyres that I have at the moment aren't bad (in the warm weather!) but I have realised that there is no point compromising even slightly on the tyres after spending all the money on a K04 and a Quaife etc.

@Harry - definitely worth it from a performance point of view if you tend to 'push it' (and I get the feeling you do :giggle: )...whether it is worth it from the £££ point of view is a personal decision I guess as it was a lot of money and in my case will only get used occasionally.

Any news on this Harry?

Yeh I've decided I'm not going to bother, and I could do with the money back. Keep an eye out in the parts for sale section soon.

Yeh I agree. Yes, it would enhance the car, but I don't feel the price warrants it. Could have a full vinyl wrap for the same money or even better, insure the bloody thing :(
