Octavia vRS Tyres

Featured Replies

Guys,

I'm after a little advice.

I have the standard Continental Sport Contact 2 - 225/40 R18 92Y Tyres fitted on my 2008 vRS TDI. They are due for replacement soon and I'm not sure which ones to go for. I am thinking that the Brand currently on the car are fine, so do I stay with the same make or go for something different.

So I would like YOUR advice and help as to the GOOD, BAD and darn right DON'T buys.

I have the Continental Sport Contact 3, Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta and Michelin Pilot Sport PS 2 in mind but would like it if anyone can give their feedback on these tyres or any other they feel/have experience with.

Cheers!

  • Probably should have said, mine came with the Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres on it and I think they're crap... I've also heard this from 4 or 5 other people who had them on their cars (Octavia and Leon owner

  • You paid too much! £100 pound a corner is right:thumbup:

  • According to the fuel cap it's 2 bar front and 2.1 bar rear, a bit more if you have the car loaded.

The conti's in my experience offer a good balance of life and grip.

The Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's are about £20 to £30 a tyre cheaper but not as widely available as the others.

They're probably what I'll go for when I replace mine in the next few weeks.

Vreds

Are Maloya Futura Sport W tyres any good?

Vredestein brand tyres

I'm on my second VAG group car with OE Contis and I'm massively underwhelmed with them. I had a Cupra TDI 150 before and replaced the Contis with Eagle F1 GSD3s, and they were a massive improvement - better grip in all situations and better life too. I am looking forward to my current tyres wearing out on my petrol vRS as the grip levels they offer are extremely poor in the wet and dry and they are very noisy to boot. Price is a consideration so considering the positive review I may plump for the Vreds when the time comes.

I'm a Falken fan ... brilliant tyres.

If they are good enough for my Impreza Turbo, they are good enough for anything.

Ah, but tyres that work on something with 4 wheel drive and/or trick diffs don't always work as well on a FWD car... I remember ordering the same tyres for my car as my mate had on his A3 quattro and hated them on my car... I had a SEAT at the time, which had pretty much the same chassis, only FWD as opposed to his 4WD... Can't remember exactly what they were, but they were Continentals, brilliant on his, shocking on mine :(

I've got Bridgestones on mine, Potenzas one end and Turanzas on the other... i forget which way round.

They are pretty good grip wise. Can't comment on wear as they were on when i bought the car last may. I have, however done 11k on them so far.

All i will say is they are deafeningly loud. It really is unbearable on all but newly surfaced roads. I get the feeling thats a common thing with the brand though...

They may be brilliant when/if the weather improves, but in the cold and wet conditions we've been having, they seem to have far less grip than the Michelins that were on my company Saab that my vRS replaced...

I had Dunlops on a previous car and remember not being impressed with them then either...

I bought two bridgestones re050's for £85 each fitted at Formula 1 . Bought the car from idependant garage and they had fitted some WANLI'S !!!!

They were lethal .

Changed them straight away for the Bridgestones which offer incredible grip .... :smirk:

Bridgestone RE050A's on the front.

Falken 452's on the rear.

All tyres seem to be doing their job just fine.

I have replaced all the original Dunlop Sport Maxx's with Goodyear Asymmetrics and no complaints so far. Wasn't a big fan of the Sport Maxx's though.

Vred are ace. I bought a Golf gti and they had them on. At first I thought what are they. But having driven in all conditions and they were brilliant in the snow I would only buy these in the future and would put them on my new Octavia VRS that I have just ordered.

I have done 5,000 miles on my Sport Maxx's, looking at the wear on the fronts, 8,000 - 8,500 miles will see them having to be replaced.

Thats not me being silly with my driving style, the majority of this is Motorway driving

Probably give the Vredesteins a go.

I can highly reccomend the Vred's - brilliant so much better than the OE fitment dunlops- even in the dodgy snow and ice - i got four fitted for 400 quid at tyres for less in Leeds, cheers

vreds on mine an they are excellent, bearing in mind the track work i do as well, and they really perform. dont buy the toyo T1R's though. i thought they wre sh!te

Yes they probably are very good in the wet ................

at finding ditches, hedges, trees!! :o so don't even think about them

I've heard good things from the Vreds and the Goodyear F1As

My tip is for Goodyear F1 Assymetric's. I have no experience of them on Octy VRS but had 2 sets on my Focus ST (exactly the same size).

My originals were Conti SC2 which were OK but nothing special, not that great in the wet.

On the other hand the GY Assymetrics had very good and much better grip especially in the wet. They also gave more feedback and let you 'feel' the car more. Very predictable even on the limit on a track.

Wear wise the Conti SC2 and GY Assy, I got 21000 miles out of both of them.

The GY's cost slightly more than the Vred Sessanta, I paid £440 for the last set in August

Thanks for all the advice so far, looks like the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta are coming up top trumps at the moment, but please keep the comments coming.

Cheers :)

Devo the sessantas , had them on a year, soon to replace fronts, and they look cool B)

I have Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta on mine and i think they are a good tyre.

Would i get them again - Hmmmm not so sure

I had Avon ZZ3 tyres on previously and to be honest i think they were every bit as capable as the Vredesteins and about £12 a tyre cheaper.

Same sort of grip in both the wet & dry for both tyres. Got about 25k miles out of the Avon's so far had the Vredesteins on for about 5k miles

My Next tyres will be one of the following

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics

Avon ZZ3

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

I'm at replacement time on my 58 vRS CR TDI with the 18" wheels.

Done about 15,000miles on the fronts, would you say this is average?

I got 14,000 miles out of the fronts on my PD vRS (Conti 2) on mixed running. Other people get more (and a lot less!).

Depends a lot on driving style, and use (motorways, etc.).

Struggling to find an online tyre place that sells my 3 top choices:

Michelin Primacy

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

Goodyear Hydragrip

225/40/18

Can find the odd one but it's not as easy as I thought!
