Classic cars anyone?

Featured Replies

Reading Geordiesteves thread on his Spitfire for sale, got me dreaming and yearning for my old mint Anglia 105E again.

Don't half miss it. :( Suppose my AX may become a classic one day, in fact it's nearly 17 yrs old now, so I suppose it nearly is. :)

What have you lot got then, and any pictures?

Not seen one of those for yonks...certainly were a desirable motor then...still are I suppose if in good nick.

I had a Austin 1300 GT for a while in teal blue, really nice motor...well I thought so...'til a twonk decided to use the back of it to slow his manky Zephyr down  Had it repaired but it was never the same.

I've got a 1970 mini. My first car ... kept it.. haven't used it for 10 years.

Ey Geoff, that reminds me too..I had a Vauxhall Viva GT for a little while..bit tatty and handled like a rampaging hippo, but was a bit of a wheeze! :D

I bought a brand new Saab 96 (young, free and single) I remember the reg number as well XNP 96M , and it was yellow :D

At that time Big Stig ..........Stig Blomquist was driving for Saab in what is now the WRC and he was my hero !

I loved that car .......my first ever brand new car , and lots of good memories .......or do I mean mammories .... :D ..........probably both .. ;)

Geoff, I tend to think a few owners of that car may wish they had it, some however didn't sell it! Most must have been nicked by now!

Strangely enough, a local scrote had a go at mine before i got a chance to alarm it.

Sadly for him he was seen doing it...

He was persuaded that a life of crime wasn't too wise..

I miss my K reg MK1 Escort, 3.1 essex V6 with Stg 3 Swaymar heads,

No heater, stereo ,rear seats, carpet, just 2 seats a roll cage and steering wheel.

The sound was addictive.

Had a test drive in a Mk1 RS1600 back in 1970. They wouldn't let me drive it, but took me for a blast...WOW!

Suppose it would seem slow by today's standards now.

Don't see any anymore, or the RS2000. Suppose all the ones that are left are locked up in centrally heated garages. Sad really.

:D ..........no , not a 2 stroke .

Thinking about it , that car saved me from a bloody good kicking ..................at the time the drivers door couldn't be opened from the outside (I had to unlock the passenger door and get in and climb over to the driver's seat ) , and on this particular evening I had taken a "young lady" home , and was having a kiss and a cuddle with her outside her house ...............when her husband  appeared from inside the house to see what was going on .

Well , he came round to the driver's side to drag me out ....and he couldn't get in (thank God).........so he then kicked the door ....by which time his wife had got out of the car .........and I left rather quickly !

On inspection of the car the following morning , there was a shoe sized dent in the car door , which quite remarkably "popped" out with no visible sign , thanks to my brother :D

A true story .

Between my Dad & I a 1951 2.5 litre Riley RMB, 1982 Mini automatic, 1961 Land Rover Series IIa and a 1958 Land Rover Series One in need of TLC to put it back on the road.

Pics of the Riley and SIIa:

I had a BMW 1602 as a first car. Leather interior and LHD. Still miss it.

Sadly, I don't have any classics..... :(

But my mate actually has one of those "rocking horse poo poo" RS1600's, a Lotus Cortina and, in need of some attention, a TVR (iirc) S1.....

Lucky swine..........

Don't suppose he feels like a little drive into N.wales in just under 2 weeks does he, to help blow the cobwebs off?

Would especially love to see the Escort. Is it as original?

as much of it as I've seen, it looks totally orignal. it's in controlled storage somewhere....job for the A-team?........

Still got my '58 Morris Minor convertible although don't have the time to use it much anymore. I still love it and don't think i'll ever sell it - was my first road going car and I completely restored it with my dad from an old wreck . Given the amount of sweat and tears, swearing, ripped up knuckles, welding, paint prepping annoying runs in paintwork etc, I don't think I could ever bear to part with it. :) Still remember using it to get me and all my stuff up to Scotland from Canterbury for University every term, also used for away hockey & shinty games loaded with four blokes and all the kit in it

Its great getting into it and laughing at the hand pumped windscreen washers, foot operated dip switch for the headlights, trafficators, quarterlights, HUGE and thin placcy steering wheel, no stereo, no seatbelts, the joys of a dynamo struggling to produce enough electrical charge etc :D

No classic cars at all here - just these. That Riley looks nice, Maffwilson.

Not in one of those blow up air controlled bubbly things is it...you know..an Andy Spinndrift look alike! :D

Really don't see the point of hiding it away, in my opinion, cars are there to be used and enjoyed by the owner and for the enjoyment of everyone that appreciates them. :(

My brother has got a mint MG midget, but he rarely takes it out,,and even then it has to be a dry day.

Has it got the vacumn operated wipers too! They were a laugh, especially going uphill!

Wish I'd kept my first car - a Vitesse 1600. Would have been 40 years old this year :(

Has it got the vacumn operated wipers too! They were a laugh, especially going uphill!

Nope - luckily!! The wipers are electric motor driven - although still quite amusing since they are the old type where each wiper wipes outwards & upwards towards the side they are on. The main problem with them is that when you need them most (i.e. dark, wet and cold outside) they virtually grind to a halt when coming inwards due to the dynamo struggling to power the lights, heater and wipers all at the same time  ... obviously going outwards they go like a rocket due to air pressure helping :D

Also, forgot - the best thing is the starting handle for getting you going when everything else has gone down the swanny
