What are your thoughts on proposed Diesel parking tax?

Featured Replies

Guy sounds like a total plonker. :dull:

I read somwthing last week about a European strategy to eliminate diesel over the next 15-20 years. Tax being one part of the plan. I'll try to find it again.

how on earth are they going to get rid of diesel, remove every bus, lorry, tractor, car, van ETC off the road

never going to happen !

Plus plenty of things that aren't on the road like trains, ships, quarry machinery, emergency generators at power stations, hospitals, chemical plants.

The world is totally dependent on fossil fuel and it's going to need a radically different government commitment to develop and use alternative energy sources, unfortunately they only seem to know how to invent taxes.

And the reasons the world is dependent on fossil fuels are: firstly Government taxation, brings in serious wonga for the Government (what will the government do if all cars turned electric tomorrow? - is it really in their interest to quickly stop the use of fossil fuels when they can tax it's use instead) Also the oil companies are greedy and historically have stalled progress on more environmentally viable vehicles to keep oil as well used as possible. They only do it now because it's good advertising hype to stick in adverts (like stuff about algae etc), plus they're starting to realise the future won't be fossil fuels and they need a new source of money once they've over mined the planet earth..

If there were no capitalism, no need for Government, and people still had the drive to better themselves and technology the cars of today would be *very* different.

They are not trying to get rid of diesel but penalise diesel drivers for the priveledge. There is a move to get this established in london and the bill has been passed to the Commons.

What the previous posters said about it being a joke are wrong. You can listen to the podcast about it on lbc.

Can I ask which car emits emissions while its parked up and stationary?

P.S What has this got to do with Fabias, can someone please move it into the relevant section.

i've just checked this out and here is a copy of the greek law on diesels:

In Athens there is pollution control which alternates cars depending on whether their number plate is odd or even. Diesel private cars are not allowed in Greece because Diesel particulates destroy the ancient monuments. Foreign cars are currently excempt from this rule however (if you drive a diesel in Athens, think about this).

Yes, more tax on diesels is a good thing :)

What a load of c*ck.

Ban unleaded because it contains MTBE which is proven to cause cancer. FFS!

Tax Tax Tax Tax, tax the f**k out of everyone then screw them some more so the MP's and their banker mates can keep living it up large!

Are you standing at the next election, you have my vote. I wouldn't worry though, I have the heard the next stage, is all car owners are to be arrested and sent to a secret Mars penal colony. There they will gain the support of the workers and learn to throw off the shackles of oppression, return to Earth, and hunt down bankers and politicians and make them eat each other.

Stupidity really.

Just because you cant see the stuff coming out of the exhaust of a petrol car, doesn't mean its not as bad as a diesel.

Once they''ve got rid of all petrol/diesel cars, they will still find some way to ^&*( us drivers, they'll probably move from envirmomental to safety.

Electricity is dangers don't you know.

Tax on electric cars!

Have you got a direct link to this Greek information? I'd be interested to read it, seeing as I know Greeks living in Greece with their own diesel cars? The Pollution control measures have also been operating in Athens for some time, where your vehicle is diesel or not. The odd/even number plate system is used in quite a few cities around the globe. For Athens it's as much to do with the fact that the city's gridlocked with cars, as much as it's to do with pollution...
