Hidden glove box compartment

Featured Replies

I'm well chuffed with the hidden compartment I didn't know I had - read about it in a post here and decided to look last night, thinking, nope, I'm sure I would have noticed it before. Sure enough under the glove box floor is a space for all the manuals, this has freed up the actual glove box nicely. Then discovered the cubby hole under the drivers seat I also didn't know I had in two years of ownership, great place for the windscreen cloths  The passenger side one is taken with the CD changer.

Any others I should know about :giggle: (Found the little hatch to the right of the steering wheel when I first got the car, even I couldn;t miss that).

Fabias without the changer have the underseat storage on the passenger seat

there are pockets on the side of the front seat backs, on the console side

And the can holder on the lower right hand of the dash ;)

If you feel under the steering wheel and run your hand down towards the pedals - there is a small shelf/cubby hole you can put things in!

You've already mentioned hatch on drivers side that I use as a hidden coin tray. I use the normal coin tray for litter ever since I had the loose change taken from it!

It's perfect for sunglasses ;)

I find it's perfect for a windscreen demisting pad.

what what what? :o im confused imsure i would have noticed these before! give me details!

i thought there was just the can holders in the glovebox and between the front seats?

Nip round the lift the big lid and you will find a nice storage area there also, I tend to hide all my shopping there. :giggle:

Never heard of them, what is it, some kind of ultra absorbent pad? :giggle:

I opened the big lid at the front of the car today, big storage area for an engine or something?

Can I retro fit a cd changer under the passenger seat? Seen a few on the bay for about fifty quid. Wonder how difficult it is to do?

Brilliant  I hadn't noticed the one in the steering column or the pockets on the seat insides either. I have so much room I don't know where to put everything now!

at the front you say?! :wonder:

mine seems to be at the other end...optional extra maybe?

And the rear heater vents under the front seats (not storage I know, but still nice).

I think the hidden compartment in the glove box is on certain models only? I couldn't find it on mine.

The bottom inside floor of the glovebox doesn't lift up? Thought it did on all mk1's!

Just checked thoroughly and I can see the hinges where the flap should be. I suspect previous owners have ripped it out and binned it. So yes they probably all have them so long as the lids aren't ripped out :thumbup:

Seems this is the bit I am missing

Blimey, what a voyage of discovery!

I'm just gathering the parts to do this myself. The problem is you need specific brackets and a specific bit of trim to finish it off. I believe these are now discontinued and very hard to find as lone parts but I could be wrong. I managed to get a changer, brackets and trim out of another Fabia for a good price. Also, You'll need a lead as they aren't in the cars as standard, but these can be bought for £10 - £15 on eBay etc.

I read somewhere on here that a guy had hacked the back out of the under seat compartment and mounted the / a changer actually inside the cubby which gave him a nice little door to hide / protect it from heels. In someways I think this retro fit approach is as good as the OEM and also lets you use any changer, including ones specific for an after market HU.

I did something similar Rob, when I fitted a Phatbox under there on my first Fabia. Requires a bit of plastic cutting/hacking and some custom bracketry but the end result was pretty good, and out of harm's way as you say.

  • 8 months later...

I found FOUR cubby holes, two each side of the car, where I can cram in up to FIVE people at a time! Nice soft adjustable pad-things to make it comfy, too! :giggle:

emoticon-0136-giggle.gif ....

ill have a look in the glovebox later then as i didnt notice a secret hidy hole either emoticon-0148-yes.gif

... and the fuses are hidden behind the end trim on the right hand side - but what's behind the one on the left hand side? (I went out to have a look but can't get in that door at the moment without moving the car...)

I only found the compartment in the glovebox a couple of weeks ago after reading another thread on here about it - I've owned the car over a year too - I was made up with the nice surprise! :)
