VAT Free Offer applicable to Factory Fit Extras?

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone can help...

I have received a quote from nearby Skoda dealer for a new Octavia Estate (factory order). He has reduced the price of the vehicle by the VAT amount as per the current offer. For the car I am interested in this has meant the list price of Skoda Octavia Estate Elegance 1.4TSi has gone from £16,415 to £14,071.49. But when we start to add on extras such as metallic paint he has added it on at £410. Should this not be at £410 less VAT, i.e £348.94?

I have seen some newspaper ads where the VAT free offer is said to apply to factory fit options but can't see it on the Skoda website. Is it discretionary? Can anyone point me to where it is in writing by Skoda UK? As I want to add on quite a few extras such as metallic, ESP, spare wheel, maxidot, the VAT issue could make a significant difference!

Also, one more point, I have no P/X so what is a "reasonable" dealer discount to get over and above the Skoda UK stuff. I don't expect broker price but the current dealer contribution sits at £250 which seems a bit mean.

Thx

my dealer knocked the VAT off the extras, though its not actually the VAT but a discount which woeks out to be as much as the VAT.

Ask the dealer to knock it off and if they dont want to play ball go else where

I had the VAT knocked off my extras (although I only ordered race blue and spare wheel)

Didn't pay the VAT on my extras either...

Shop around - but yes you should expect at lest the VAT off the list price of all extras.

Try drivethedeal.com.

I ended up buying a new vRS estate (petrol) in race blue with silver roof rails and maxidot for £16,300 - 20% discount in total.

Was that through drivethedeal? Sounds an amazing price reduction.

DtD is the benchmark for your deals, if dealer can't beat it, then why pay more? I ordered from them and got VAT plus extra discount on all options.

colsay mine didn't knock the VAT off -- like you i couldn't find something in print that shows the vat free should apply to the options. Also the dealer brought up the website finance example and it shows a Vrs with optional race blue paint, and the paint is listed at £410 (that's the inc vat price) in the worked example, even though the car is minus VAT in the example.

So i changed tact and started beating him over the head with drive the deal's price instead

I took the price from drive the deal and literally emailed every Skoda dealer in the country. A few beat it and by coincidence the cheapest dealer in the country was only 30 mins away saving me over £200 on the drive the deal price - you need to remember that the drive the deal price is only with 6 months road tax whereas a dealers quote with 12 months tax.

The current drive the deal quote is only valid for cars delivered by 31st March - and you haven't a hope of getting one by then - unless is sitting in this country ready but its very very unlikely.

And DTD will not take a part exchange-so if you have to sell it privately you may have to time it to near delivery date. Selling privately can take forever. I have used DTD twice-having sold my cars but having a second to fall back on. If you havent then you might find yourself without a car for a while or with two.At least with a dealer you can be fairly certain that your present car will be exchanged and the price you should get.
