Hey I'm new to this octavia forum Car 1 day and problems

Featured Replies

Recieved the car at 6pm last night, 8 miles out the road white/blue smoke, so turbo has blown on a car with 44000 miles is this possible?

so ****ed off

can you retro fit dual climate control and cruise control

Oh dear, that doesn't sound good :( Do you have any recourse with where you bought it from?

Climate control has not been done as far as I know, as the cost would be very high, cruise control is a common retrofit and we offer that for £125 supplied and fitted.

Can the OP clarify whether the car is a modified Fabia vRS, a stage 1 mapped Octy 2 TDi vRS, or a standard Octy2 petrol vRS (or even a stage 1 Octy 1 1.8T vRS)?

AFAIK Climatronic was never even an option on the Furbie, dual zone wasn't an option on the Octy 1.

As to the turbo, comments depend on the car.

Cruise is pretty easy, as Shark90 says and quotes for.

I'm assuming the car that's blowing smoke is a Mark II Octavia Sport with a standard 140 PD engine (subtitle of topic, and he does state he's new to the Octavia forum...)

just leaves me bitter i dont know if the car has been remapped or not as only got about ten minutes of driving in it

To be fair the PD140 is known for turbo failures, if you search the octy2 forum you will see a number of members with failed turbos at various mileages.

If you only drove it 8 miles I'd assume it was blown at the time of sale. Hard to believe it waited until you got behind the wheel! I supposed the prev owner traded it on account of the turbo problem. I would reject the car right now (send a letter by Special Delivery so there is no doubt about the timing of your actions) and get your money back. There are plenty of good cars out there and TBH the 140 is not the best motor. You don't want to take on someone else's problem child.

There is no problem with the man taking the car back. He has given me six months warrenty with the car and a year on the turbo. I was just interested to know if they are known to do this or not

Its a common problem with the 2.0tdi's. If its just the turbo, everything should be OK once replaced. You should see a big reduction in the smoke.

Does this apply to th 2.0 PD 170 too?

Also, are the 1.8 turbo and 2.0 turbo petrol engines affected by the same problem ?

seems to be all the 140pd engines across the vag range giving bother, the 170 is common rail and dont think it carries the bad name for turbo problems

Only the recent 170's are common rail, the previous ones were Pd's just like the 140's...same engine but I guess a bigger turbo?

One of the common issues is the diesel engines clog up the varable vanes on the turbo with soot. After time they start to stick and you get an overboost fault which causes the car to go into limp home mode.

Do the PD engines have exhaust gas recirculation systems like some of the ford diesel engines have, which can clog thing up too ?
