Tyres for Vrs

Featured Replies

I know this question has been asked before but I cannot get the search function to work today and I am really needing new tyres and want some opinions.

I have a standard Vrs ( no mods ) and want to know what owners would recommend to replace the original Continentals which have worn out after 30,000 miles. What I am looking for is a tyre that has good grip ( more so in wet for safety ) and decent wear but doesn't cost the earth. What do owners suggest

Event tyres on internet come to you.

I've had Falkens 912's, about £260 for set of 4, fitted. love them. couldn't believe the differance from the dunlope sports on before, notice the difference in the anti spin regulator, it barely comes on now. Grip very good, liked them that much, that I had a set fitted then next week to the wifes veccy.

i have toyo proxies t1rs they are 59 quid a wheels derlivered and 79 fitted they are great but not so good when you have alot of power as they tend just to light up and go straight :giggle: i am trying goodyear eagle f1s next but there like 90 quid a wheel lol try camskill :p

uniroyal rain masters " you will NOT find a better tyre in the wet or the dry

Poor kitty

Whilst tyres have been done to death on here, this post does offer soething new. How the F#%k did you manage to get 30k out of a set of tyres? I got that from teh rears, but the fronts! I wish. I'd be part way through my 4th set after 30k.

PS, agree with the post about the uniroyals being great in the wet.

If you did do a search and save the innocent kittens, you will find Toyo Proxes T1-Rs and Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s are the most popular choice. I have them on mine and can't fualt them in the wet or dry. However they are both useless in snow and wet grass/mud. Uniroyal rainsport 2s are quite popular as well.

I've had 3 sets of Falken 912s in the past. Good tyre for the price.

I've just had a set of Nexen N6000s fitted to the front last weekend - £58 per tyre. Sofari so good.

My Roomster is on the second set of these. The Saab will be getting the to next, great tyres!

Goodyear F1 Eagles GSD3 without a doubt :)

Stunning tire in both looks and performance.

I think its false economy to replace with cheap or mid range tyres

The prem brands arn't that expensive really.

Bridgestone er300 turanza. They last longer than the uniroyals. Are very good in wet and dry. Good rolling radius meaning good fuel economy. Also were top rated in which magazine.

Uniroyals would be my second choice, but dont wear as well and not as good in dry.

Ive just gone past 36,000 miles. think its all about driving style and road conditions

Hmmmm. Interesting point. About 6 weeks back I had a needed a new set of fronts. As the Bridgestone Turanza's I had on the rear were quite well worn but more importantly +2yrs old I moved them up to the front to "finish them off" and fitted the new set to the back.

I have also noticed a marked improvement in fuel economy over the last 6 weeks or so but never put 2+2 together until now.

The Bridgestones are now fully worn and I was going to fit Pirelli P Zero Nero's to the font as I get on with these quite well especially fitted at £75 a corner. Perhaps I should reconsider

how are they in wet? they should good because of the thread pattern i think, as it looks like it would disperse water easily and less chance of aquaplaning

will be interested to know how long these last tho

I have Ventus V12 evo on mine at the moment. I had Toyos before and these are loads better everywhere.

Had a pair on the front of my 2.0l fabia for about a week. They are OK for the money but not as good as F1eagles especially is the wet.

No other tire I have tried has beaten them in the wet.

Crap in snow thou... :giggle:

It's all about Rotation Rotation Rotation!

Do 15k ish on the fronts which should get them down the the wear indicators; then rather than replacing them you rotate with the barely worn rears

another 15k go by getting you to 30k on a single set

It's a case of changing 2 tyres every 6 months or 4 tyres every 12 months (while spending 6 months with compromised rear grip!)

To stick in my 2 pence worth i'd try Kuhmo Ecsta KU31's

Found them great in the wet and snow through the winter and did about 18k before needed to change the fronts.

As a starting point I'll therefore need to get 15k out of the fronts rather than 10k.

RE the Kuhmo's, I've used these as well as Bridgestone Turanza's, Pirelli P Zero Nero's, Toyo T1R's, and Uni Royal Rainsports. The KU31's are the only one's I wouldn't use again.

I guess so yeah I found it the choice between 2 bills or 1 massive one!

To be honest i've just replaced a couple of my Kuhmos with P Zero Neros and can't see myself going back either.

When they were £50 each fitted they were very amazing value. However I've suffered with dodgy wearing tread blocks on the last 2 sets ot them on my last 2 cars (Fabia and Ibia so essentially the same car) which makes them drone like knackered wheel bearings which drove me insane!

I used the KU31's on my pevious car. They were not too good in wet, aquaplaning was a scary thing with these.Wear rate was good.
