Some awesome cars being listed here.. but really wanna see pix! come on!

Google the car, find an image, right click and select "open image in new tab", or "copy image url" to get the images url, and then use the little button that looks like a tiny Polaroid on your post to paste in the location and the image will appear in your post!

The cars i can remember my dad having was:-

1979 Austi Maxi 1750HL

800px-Austin_Maxi_1750_HL.JPG

Then replaced with an Austin Maestro VDP "A802KNB" Dark Blue with the talking dash

1.jpg

Replace in the 90's with a Volvo 740 GLE from northern Ireland - over £1200 cheaper than buying in the UK - but unfortunately a clocker! "MiB5874" Replaced because my sister couldnt drift it round a wet roundabout when the rear end stepped out. Written off

F277OYT.jpg

Sample pic - but it was the same blue/green

The car my dad runs now is:-

3553090004_large.jpg

Its an ex-police CID undercover car with the engine out of a T5R in it! Hmm 285bhp through the front wheels!

Again its wearing the same plate as the old volvo

BUMP!

This thread was mentioned in a list your car thread over in Fabia1 so I thought I'd re-start it!

Same as last time please, it's only really a picture thread because it's about looking at the older motors we all knew but had forgotten about!

So, Any more for Any more? What were your Dads coolest cars?

I'll start..

His XM, in this colour.. was following one of these the other day and my god they look like nothing else on the road now! I want one! lol!

4951014206_e2fbc954b2.jpg

Had it from it being 3 years old.. Sold it to my Grandpa who had it until 80k when the engine imploded.

Mmm, car nostalgia :) Love the MG 1300 that mannyo posted. Back in the early 70's my best friend's dad had a Princess 1100 :mmm: and John D's list definitely needs to be illustrated - Singer, Armstrong Siddeley...

My list will be short but sweet.

I was born in 1954 and same year dad bought a brand new Chevrolet, just like this one:

29921870001_large.jpg

In 1961 he swapped it for a Studebaker Lark VI, although in better condition than this one:

studebaker.jpg

It was still in his garage when he passed away in 1974. I drove it for a year or so, but petrol price had gone through the roof in 1973 and in city traffic you got 15 mpg :o so it was soon replaced by a Citroën...

The coolest I remember him owning was one of these:

1433550.jpg

1433566.jpg

1433578.jpg

Ford Sierra 2.9 GLS 4x4 - Basically a Sierra XR4x4 in boring clothing, an awesome sleeper

Also owned two Fiesta XR2i's - MK1 in black and MK2 in red if I remember him telling me correctly - both were owned just before I was born!

1981-Fiesta-XR2-lg.jpg

car_photo_293220_25.jpg

Still has the Cibie lamps off the MK2 in the garage B)

I know he started his driving career with one of these, not sure on the year or colour though:

vx-viva-69.JPG

Also had these over his car history:

Escort XR3i Series One:

20100618160831-4981-ford-escort-red.jpg

Rover 827 Vitesse:

carsforsale015.jpg

Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 16v:

medium_vauxhall_cavalier_mark_ii_1988-1995_1742.jpeg

Peugeot 406 Executive HDI:

231-406.jpg

Landrover Freelander 1.8 K-Series engine (Headgasket went twice and after 3 years, it only had 1st, 4th and 5th left in the gearbox - all in 60,000 miles! Luckily it was a company car):

AETV39116741_1.JPG

Also recently had two of these, after the first one was written off when somebody pulled out on him at a roundabout:

Volvo_side_007_13721133346.jpg

Oh, he also brought one of these home from work for a weekend once too:

13360129.jpg

A fairly cool collection of cars in my opinion (save a couple that are in there!) - although now he's gone all sensible and bought a V70 2.4 TDI, although it's still a very nice car to drive!

Hmmm despite being a petrol head my Dad has always bought remarkably dull cars.

A notable low point was the nova saloon in beige

original-vauxhall-nova.jpg

Things got a bit better when he got one of the first decent Seats, a Cordoba

4768697362_3061be5f66.jpg

I started to learn to drive in that but it was a tricky bugger with a very high rear window.

The high points were nothing to do with his choice. He got a couple of 318s an E36

BMW_m_m.jpg

And and E46

20090616sgmotorA1803.jpg

Which although maybe not the greatest cars in the world were pretty good to drive in when you're 18 since I was a named driver on his work insurance and I got the car a lot to put his mileage up.

After the beemers it's a been a dreary run of people carriers and now a derv focus.

My Dad had loads of sheds! He had transit vans that needed half a can of easy start every morning to get going, he had a renault 16 with column change that he swapped concrete for! He had all these sheds as work cars that carried his tools for keeping the Foden running!

I don't have many pictures but here is a really old image we found when going through his things after he passed away.

7166430752_70bb488874_c.jpg

I do know he had some decent cars too in his youth, Mini Cooper S, Vauxhall 101, Humber Super snipe.

His last car was a Passat, he bought this in the USA after his suburban blew the gearbox to pieces, his US colleagues asked what this little car was but after three years 6 people had bought VW after driving his car, this image was taken camping in Monument Valley.

Growing up in the late 80's/early 90's I all ways felt as if my old mans car choices were a little sad back in the day but looking at them now they were actually pretty cool.

Ok maybe not all of them were cool - Citroen GS

citroengs.jpg

My two favourites Cortine Mk3 1600 GT and Ventora FE 3.3 6cyl

I've had four 132's. Loved them at the time, rose tinted glasses no doubt, but I wonder what I'd make of them now.

My Dad's has to be:

Ford Thames van he put windows in: (three-speed gearbox and the clutch died while on holiday in Germany)

fordthames3.jpg

I used to sit in the tin engine cover between to two front seats. If I was lucky I got two bits of carpet to stop the back of my legs burning!

Austin 1800 (the 'land crab'), which was the family car and towed a caravan all over the UK for hols - first car I ever drove too:

Austin1800.jpg

And undoubtedly his favourite would be his 1980 Colt Sigma - coz it want like stink (compared to an Austin 1800!):

'H reg' Fiat Tempra 1.9tdi (Same colour as pictured)

tempr.jpg

Always thought we were the coolest kids as our dads car had a digital dashboard and on the tdi you got a funky Turbo Icon which showed you how much Turbo Boost you were using B)

FIAT-Tempra--1995-1996-.jpg

My dad also had the engine tweaked :giggle: and went like stink

The other car he had that I liked was a

2l auto Granada Ghia, same bodykit/wheels as below but my dads was dark gray (almost black)

7.jpg

He had a few other cars but they weren't as nice as these two.
