engine transplant

Featured Replies

think ive put this in the right place

im thinking of doing a engine drop into the octy its currently a 1.6 but i was thinking more like a 1.8t +extra bhp to make a mean track car

so if anyone has advise on how to do this including links, costs, tricks of the trade and anything i will need to know

thanks hopefully i can get this project off the ground soon

Rear Axle? The Octy is FWD (unless you have a 4x4 or Scout)

To be honest I suspect you'd be far better off swapping the car than trying to change the engine...

ok il re phrase that the rear beam on the back does it need changing

im not doing it because its easy or cheap but because i love cars and i want sumthin i can be proud of

This is potentially me being dumb, but doesn't the Octy have independent rear suspension, so no beam across the back?

no it has a rear beam...

engine transplant wouldnt be to hard if you can source and engine with all the bits and the wiring loom with it

so you need a bam engine with engine mounts

the full wiring harness and ecu

gearbox and drive shafts

possibly front hubs not sure

have fun

hmm interesting how do i go about setting up independent suspension then as the 1.6 has a beam

would a mk 2 engine fit on the same mounts?

cheers shreads

All the MK1 Octys have a rear beam, except the 4x4 which was the only model with independant rear suspension due to the driveshafts.

ok confused now can some check there vrs in the morning and see how the rear suspension is fitted

but mainly back to the original question will rear discs go on the 1.6 rear beam or does it need switchin

cheers

shreads

No need to check, I have swapped it.

It is a rear beam not IRS

is there much difference in the beam and mountings

cheers

I doubt there is any real difference. If you want to create a 1.8t track car, if you're leaving it 2wd, you don't need to touch the rear of the car. :)

wat about rear discs tho surly i need to uprate the stopping ability with more power in the car

shreads

You have drums at the moment do you? Oh right.... Hmmmm

Would imagine a complete beam from a mk1 vRS will fit on. If its anything to compare, the fabia rear beams are all the same where discs fitted.

I've gotta ask..

Wheres the name Shreads & Shreadings come from mate?

Rob :D

come on surely i you are going for an engine drop you can do better than a 1.8T.

if your going fro a 1.8T it would have to be the S3/Cupra R k04 engine as its stronger and more tunable.

What about the likes of jabbasport or backdraft motorsport, id be on the phone to them seeing what they think would fit in there and what they would do if they had the chance.

as above ive looked at the BAM 1.8T 225bhp engine

is it possible to add a bigger turbo

Please don't take this the wrong way, but due to the questions you are asking i'm going to take a wild stab in the dark here and say i really don't think you have the required talent to pull this conversion off, there really is a hell of a lot more to it than what has been mentioned, have you ever seen a bam/apx wiring loom? If you haven't i could show you one, i guarentee it will not be easy to splice into your current wiring.

Judging what you have asked allready i would doubt you could tell a spanner from a screwdriver ;)

  • Author

wiring is easy as im an electrical engineer and ive worked on some complex jobs so im sure il get the hang of it

as far as cars go its a learning curve this is my first ever engine conversion

so no im not fully vehicle trained or have i worked on a skoda before now

so by asking the stupid questions im getting the stupid answers and there for getting it right the first time round

cheers

spanner does nuts and bolts (also good for slackening the belt tensioner)

screwdriver does screw

In that case it will be easy for you, the wiring is the hardest bit of the job, i would forget about the little things for now and concentrate on getting the engine in and running right, from there you should start sorting the brakes ect, glad you took my original post in good humor too
