Shark Performance sts or Bluefin

Featured Replies

Hi all i am going to get my octavia vrs tdi 170 pd remaped can anyone tell me which do you think is the best and has any one had the PDF play up on them on these maps

Edited by peter simpson

If the choice is between these two i'd say Shark. I've seen some less than impressive maps from Superchips in my time..

Kev

you mean this kind of PDF play up?

Shark all the way! The STS can be re-used for your next car. Where as the Bluefin locks itself to your current car. Plus Bens maps are much better than Superchips. You only have to look at the stage 1 map print out on my car I have uploaded on another topic and see the smooth torque and power curve. It is almost as near perfect as a mapper could get!emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Sharkperformance for me as well , i started with Stage 1 and i am now on Stage 2, emoticon-0148-yes.gif.

i know on the k03 TFSi bluefin is pants. i had the bluefin at stage 1, 2 and 2+ and it was ok, until i tried another car and realised how bad the delivery was on it.

I then changed to shark performance stage 3 which was miles better than the bluefin stage 2+, and since then i have decided to remve all the mods from my car and sell up, thus ive ended uo with stage 2 dhark map and am now on stage 1.

So all in all, im pobably in one of the best positions to compare the two remaps as i have tried every stage available for both tuners........in summary i really dont rate bluefin

Add to that i will be having the STS reset, and will e purchasing another map off ben for my next car. whereas bluefin chare over £190 to reset their handsets

Good move mate , it's the way forward.

Thats the best way , your dealing with a person with ben ,dodgy accent aside , lol.

Question from a completely standard Octy 2.0 PD TDi driver now!

I've never had a car remapped, I've read a bit of the blurb on Sharks website and am possibly interested in getting mine done. I do A-road and dual carriageway sort of driving most of the week then about 300 motorway miles at the weekends. Obviously fuel economy ain't the main reason to get a car remapped ;) but can anyone give some ideas on what the fuel and performance effects are likely to be, assuming driving style stays the same?

Also I saw the stuff about the sts on Shark's site and wondered exactly how you go about that compared to taking it to him, or somewhere else to be remapped

Performance Upgrades for the Skoda Octavia (1Z) 2004-2009 2.0TDi PD140

Stage 1 - ECU remap to 170bhp - £299

STS - Shark Performance Self Tuning System - Take control of your tuning with our switchable system with no need to travel to us - +£150

If I'm reading it right, it's £299 for the map then another £150 for the sts? Not sure I can manage ~£450 at the mo  ...or £300 for that matter!

like for like driving id say you would see an increase in fuel economy especially on a diesel. Drive it hard though and it would mean a small loss on mpg, but with a diesel you wont ake the hit on fuel as much as we would with petrol.

To load the map, you need a computer with access to the internet.

the process goes

1-load software onto computer-(dead easy to do, with easy to follow online instuctions on the website)

2-plug handset into car, select copy ecu (or words to that effect, cant rememer the actual phrase), it will then copy the ecu onto the handset.

3-remove from the car, plug it into your computer and then email the map to ben,

4-ben does crazy things with the map

5-ben emails it back to you

6-using the software downloaded you put it onto th STS handset(just a couple clicks of the mouse)

7-plug the sts into your car and press upload

ive prob made that sound harder than it actually is, but seriously, it is so easy, and if you get stuck at anytime, im sure ben would talk you through it step by step. You get great customer service from him.

think someone mention 20% off mate. All i say is dont rush into buying a remap cos its cheap. your paying good money for a good product

Thanks vRSy, sounds like syncing a mobile phone or using a removable hard drive - but with more fun results!

Like you say in your second post I understand that you get what you pay for and have seen other people's comments on certain maps out there. Slightly concerned about possible longer term effects on the turbo, I've now got my car up to about 58,000 miles and am getting a bit of turbo whine on acceleration/deceleration - sometimes sounds like a copper approaching, so don't want to go toasting bits I can't afford to replace :S ...and it was mentioned by the stealers at the last service.

I know what you mean there i've just stripped all the performance parts off my st3 she was running 310bhp and a fuel return of 15 mpg.I wanted to go back to a vrs tfsi but the wife has told me we have to go for a tdi estate as we have two dogs and a baby on the way and i will end up spending to much money on tuning tfsi :'(

If this is a new vRS then the STS isn't an option for you (yet) as it's not currently available for the CR vRS
