VRS SE MOT

Featured Replies

Just completed the MOT for the VRS SE

Passed with flying colours, with a cautionary note Bonnet catch tight to release?

I wish for once I could get a clean MOT sheet

My last one for the yellow peril was passed, cautionary note tyres at 8mm (eight mm)

Do these MOT folk have to find something to show they have looked even though IMHO it is totally unecessary

8mm, aren't they that new?

I was thinking that - Legal limit is 1.8mm from memory.

I thought new was around 10mm, 8 as a advisory is ridiculous!

My Fabia went through its mot 2 weeks ago with 4mm all round and didnt get an advisory :wonder:

8mm is new...thats got to be an error

bonnet catch too tight and 8mm on tread what a shower of cocks!

mines passed last time with 2 bolts in the strut top and a missing wheel bolt, monkeys

Most new tyres are now 7mm tread when new. So an advisory of 8mm is just crazy. Last MOT I had done on the Moggy 1000 had an advisory "Oil leak from engine and gearbox" Well if an A series engine ever stops leaking oil, it's because there is no oil in there  I prefer to call it automatic rust proofing. My SE goes in for MOT next month.

So true! The driveway at my house was a right mess when I used to have my old mini, and the subframes etc never rusted thanks to the amount of oil that coated the underside! - still miss it :(

British engineering!! Years ahead of it's time

Good to see ya back buddy, my SE passed MOT with flying colours - just checking if you got my PM the other day?

No PM mate, need help with anything?

Yeah if you don't mind mate - was just wondering - when I got it serviced I asked Alex Lawrie Skoda if they'd replace the EGR under warranty with a drilled out one but it hasn't made any difference as far as I can tell. Is it much smoother when changing from 1st to 2nd with the drilled out gasket and does it cure the stutter more or less completely? Do you know how easy is it to check that they have done it? Bear in mind I can just about change a headlight bulb, haha! Sorry to sound like a complete noob...

Mines going in thursday, it needs a new rear shock as found out on service its leaking :'(

1.6 mm :nerd:

If car is under warranty it should have the BLT engine, which had the 14mm gasket fitted as standard. I get an occasional engine hesitation when feeding the power in gradually when the engine is not quite warmed up, but other than that smooth as silk.

At least that shouldn't be too expensive. The part's about £30 + VAT (trade), and you should be able to replace one inside an hour. :)

my rear tyres had 1.7mm on them when it went through and I got no advisories.....still have 1.7mm on them to. Not bad for almost 40,000 miles :giggle:

Well, http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_840.htm says that the bonnet must be secure when closed; nothing about "being too tight when closed" though. YOu might want to think about raising a complaint about "meaningless advisories outside test parameters" National?

I had an advisory for "all tyres almost on wear bars (2.0mm)" in the last MOT; 6 miles later, the car had 4 new tyres, and it would have been 4 miles later if either the chargehand at the tyre place or I hadn't made a mistake (I can't remember if I said 2 or 4 the first time) and ordered 2 tyres rather than 4.

My fabia failed its first MOT :dull: brakes, number plates, headlights and satnav mark on screen. Needless to say after an agruement and the headlights bening adjusted it passed and the garage never had mine or the families business again! passed its 2nd with no problems and failed the last one on the discs (which was the same discs on the previous MOT's) which then passed once then fitted new ones.

Same cant be said for its MOT this year console bush needs doing, it sounds like a wheel bearing is on its way out and I have a nasty knocking noise that has just developed when changing gears. The joys of having cars!

The point the above was trying to make is that some MOT testers just try it on to try and get some extra money out of people.

Advisories are used as a cover for the tester. For example if your car goes in for a test and gets advised on front tyres being on 2mm, then the next day you do a track day, there not going to be on 2mm anymore by the end of the day, Then on the way home the police are doing spot checks and they find your tyres and the fact its only just been MOTed, they will then want to know who tested it and where, i think you get the jist. Offcially you are now supposed to advise on top and bottom engine covers and sill covers, as you can't see under them and your not allowed to remove parts during a test.

Cheers All for replies

It just annoys me as I like to have everything correct, and getting a cautionary on the MOT Certificate, is like a kick in the face

As someone posted, the MOT is to check the bonnet is secure NOT how tight the catch is, I think on reflection, as I did speak to

the examiner, He was advising me to get it greased/eased, so it would not leave me stuck if it ceased, but why put it on the MOT CERT

Again with the tyres at 8mm cautionary, I traded that Furby in for this SE so I no longer have the MOT Cert to post up, the tyres were

a couple of months old at the most, and the spare was as new Never taken out of the boot,

Anyway as I said, it just annoys me that I do not have a CLEAN MOT Cert, Just a thing I have (must be a bit Autistic)
