I want a big, comfy car!

Featured Replies

Just got back from helping a friend of SWMBO's and her partner get a car suitable for their expected little one.

They'd seen a few mini MPVs they'd liked, and they settled on a Renault Scenic.

I gave it a test drive to check all was ok, and I now want to go shopping for another car for myself! It was so good to have a comfortable car to drive around in. Sure, it rolled but it was so relaxing to drive!

To Autotrader, methinks! :giggle:

Scenic in diesel form................?

Pfft

I don't want a Scenic, thinking more a saloon/estate of some description

And the repair bill will be massive on an S Class. How about a Superb ?

Hmm... not a fan of that age S-Class...

Maybe a Superb, although I'm itching for an estate again!

I had a ride in a Mazda people carrier yesterday. Compared to the vRS it felt like a magic carpet and all the bumps I normally wince over, were smoothed out and not even there. The view was amazing and I could see so much more. By the time we got to our destination I was feeling queasy, bored and so pleased I didn't have to drive a car like that on a daily basis. The novelty of it all lasted about two miles. :D

edit : My sister lives in France and has a brand new Grand Scenic. It's smooth, quiet and oh so practical. They've had it a few months and she says it is sooo boring. She blames me for being such a car nut and bringing her up to love cars.

Diesel ?, oh yes i think so andy ......

Comfiest car I've ever driven, by far, was a Lexus LS400 my Dad had years ago. It floated around effortlessly. Far better than any Rolls or Jag. First time I hit a country road in it I dropped the right foot a little up to what I figured was 50-60mph only to find I was clocking well over a ton. No road noise, no sense of speed at all, just wafted along regardless of circumstance. At the time I had a Mazda RX-7, which whilst it went like stink, by comparison felt like a go kart built by blind monkeys.

Dependant on budget could always try a Range Rover or Phaeton?

No question then, it has to be the Superb 3.6L V6 4x4 Estate

Now, where did I put those winning lotto numbers :giggle:

There is a nice big petrol engined Phaeton kicking around, or failing that how about an R36 in a few years.

If you start saving now, you should be good when they are available second hand :)

Diesel Ovlov estate? ;)

I refuse to drive a Volvo!

Pheaton would be awesome, but probably a little out of budget, methinks!

I'll see what happens next week (interview :))

My Dad wants to sell his Passat Saloon 1.8. Thats a big (ish) comfy car

But if you want something big bad and comfy. Get an Alfa 164!!

Just spotted the V6 one marked up round £500 but needs an exhaust so can prob haggle it down further. Looks great though!!

Or a Twin Spark like mine.

V6 syncros passats can be picked up cheap

If you want French wafting it's hard to beat the Vel Satis - bigger than it looks, packed full of kit, available with some hefty V6 petrol engines, and the depreciation is quite staggering.

Of course, it's an ugly f**ker. And if when it breaks it's going to be expensive to repair, but most big wafty cars at the same pricepoint are going to be much the same...

Bouncy bouncy

When I recently moved house, I had my eye on getting something like a Jag but things don't work out how you plan them sometimes.

Instead, my wife (doesn't drive) has kindly informed me our next car will be a big (i.e. 7 seat) 4x4 :o

My mileage may be increasing significantly, so that could be an option!

Shock News of the Day,

Babs in Diesel car shock :D

Hey, it's not happened yet!

And it will be along side the VR6, not in place of ;)

The way the phaeton is losing money (17k in 1 year for a TDI), I think it will be in budget sooner than you think :)
