Factory orders from other manufacturers. How long ?

Featured Replies

Ordered my Scout a couple of weeks ago but dont have a build date yet. Just seen another post by someone who has ordered a VRS. He's going to have a 4 month wait !!

Just out of interest does anyone now how long new builds take from the likes of Mazda, Honda, Toyota etc ?

When I was considering a Honda Civic I was quoted 8 weeks , though that was a few years back.

Someone I work with has been given a 20 week wait for a Mercedes!

Just ordered a Fiat Scudo van, a factory order being made in Portugal. Ive been told delivery in 8 weeks.

In the last year my dad was quoted about 16 weeks for a new E-Class so he chose one that was already in the country instead

Also, my step-mum ordered a Kia Soul and was told 3 months, so she told the salesman she'd buy the one in the showroom or go elsewhere (she got the showroom model)

So it looks like it's not just VAG that has long waiting times...

Minis are made in England so no shipping/transport times

You will have to wait on a car from most makes unless you buy from stock. It seems they are building cars to order. I know Hyundai and Ford have a wait on most models right now.

Thats what i Thought .

I bought a renault clio about 7 years ago and that was a 10 week wait for delivery

I am sure it used to be that the manufacturers used to have stock of the base models which were a couple of weeks, and then the factory orders which could take anything upto 12 weeks (except BMW etc)

I always thoguht that the reason car manufacturers had a number of different variants of the same models was so that there was more chance that they could sell from stock.

When I purchased my 407 2 years ago, it came almost everything (including bluetooth which is so important to me) so I ordered a pre-reg.

There is not much to add to an L&K, but if it came with Bluetooth I may have thought about ordering from stock.

Not many manufacturers keep stock vehicles anymore, purely because of the cost of storing hundreds of unsold cars that they then can't get rid of, hence the build to order process and long delays

I ordered a Golf GT in October and was quoted 12weeks, by the end of march I still had no build date!! Cancelled and got the VRS instead.

All GTi, GTD and GT's are all suffering with extensive delays to delivery.

I was just quoted 10 weeks for a VW Passat.

My new Octavia 1.4 TSI will be ready for delivery this month. I made my decision to purchase back in March and got a good delivery date as the Dealer converted an existing order. I also looked at the VW Golf at about the same time and was told a minimum 5 month lead time if I wanted that particular engine.

Before choosing my vrs at the end of March this year I looked at a Golf GTD and a Scirocco (amongst many others). What put me off was the dealer being honest and saying 6 months was a realistic time for factory orders! Six months?! The slow down pre scrappage meant that many factories wound down production levels. The subsequent success of scrappage resulted in severe backlogs - taking the factories time to get back up to speed. With many of them winding down over summer too it's probably gonna get worse.

was quoted 10 months for a golf 2.0 tdi sportline estate.

bought a toyota corrola years ago and had to wait 8 weeks due to wanting black metallic.

also remember that my wifes fabia vrs when she ordered it she wanted red and was told 3 months

and then luckily she was offered a black one sooner at no extra cost.

When I looked at the Mazda MPS a few years ago I was quoted 3-4 months delivery. So not just European manufacturers either.

Taken 11 weeks for the Octavia VRS CR Estate to arrive and that was with only a few extras which the garage informed always protract the arrival process.

Sary part is when you p/x your vehicle at the begining of the deal it obviously had less miles on it , but by the time the new motor arrives you may have to take into consideration

the depreciation a few more miles on the clock has and factor that into the deal.

When looking at a new car at the beginning of March, we were quoted 2-3 weeks for a Passat Highline TDI 140, 4-6 weeks for a Mondeo Zetec TDCI 140, 8-10 weeks for an Audi A4 SE, up to 18 weeks for a Superb Estate 140CR Elegance or 6-8 weeks for a Superb Estate 170CR SE.

Ended up with a Superb HB 140CR Elegance which is scheduled for 13 weeks from order to expected delivery

Why is that ? It's not the buyers problem Skoda has taken so long to deliver the car. I know that if a dealer said to me sorry it's taken so long we will have to look at the deal again and offer you less for your part ex I would tell them to place their order where the sun dont shine !!!

surely any good dealer would be factoring the depreciation into any part exchange deal over a long order process. I know when mine was valued I was asked to work out how many miles I would likely to do in the next 12 weeks and then add some to ensure that the valuation was realistic

exactly what happened to me and agreed with dealer.

ordered end of march, build week 31 (august), delivery end aug/start sept.

so what then if I am not part exchanging through the dealer, but I end up doing anoht 4k through the delay.

Bit worried if you ordered end of March, and got week 31.

I ordered last week (5th May) and want the car the first week of august!!

Not a hope in hell!

I ordered my Scout on March 31st and got the same build week (after initially telling me 12 - 14 week :wonder: )

I think you'll be lucky... But stranger things have happened... Give me some thinking time and I'll find them out emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
