Funny......

We wish there was a diesel, and the limited driver involvement lets the car down. The uninspiring cabin doesn’t help, either. But with its all-round performance, practicality and great price, the Fabia is an appealing package.

Anyone got the review from the first Vrs? i bet it said:

We wish there was a petrol

Funny how now we are trying to get the best MPG from our hot hatches that everyone wants a Diesel, but back in the day everyone wanted Petrol power?!

thats review left me confused more than anything......... its exelent here......... but sucks here............ they have done them self proud.............but this is boring...............

Come on Auto Express make your mind up..... do you like it or not?

....and your point is????

i thnk Shyboy Agrees with me :giggle:

I hope my point is at the bottom of my post.... they have reviewed the car, but not said if its worth buying or not?!

....and your point is????

Sorry.........clicked on the wrong button. My point is that it was given 3 out of 5 stars, so I read that as it's ok but not great.

I don't know if this has been discussed before but surely a "hot hatch" should really be a two door?

looks a good review, but id rather have a diesel if they bring one out

Quite unlikely...The new Polo is expected to get a better review by Auto Express.. They like VW's..but at nearly £18,000!!!

er...No!

second hand octavia vrs tdi anyone??

the new Polo GTi was in last week's Auto Express and got a very good write up - "The best Hot Hatch Supermini yet!" style of thing

Interestingly enough, this week's (26 may) Autocar has a review of both the Polo and the Fabia, and often mentions the similarities. They are a bit more appreciative of the Fabia than AutoExpress were

A comparison of the AE reviews for the two cars reveals I think the subtle prejudices you often see in car reviews. The lack of driver involvement caused by the DSG is briefly referred to in the Polo review, but the DSG is praised for its efficient changes. The Fabia review makes more of the lack of driver engagement and little of the efficiencies of the DSG. Yet with the same engine, transmission and paddles, there is likely to be little diference between the cars in this regard.

Ride and handling are generally rated well for both

The plusher cabin of the Polo compares favourably to the plainer cabin of the Fabia. fair enough. But what about the Fabia's greater 5 door practicality, and its roughly £3000 price advantage? And why is the diesel issue allowed to be afactor for one car and not the other. In any case AE are reviewing a petrol car, not a car without a diesel (it's like criticising a blue car for not being red!)

Hard to see therefore how the Fabia gets one star less in an objective comparison

Sorry

i seem to have posted multiple times.

I'm not sure why !

helix, ffs.....

Not feeling a strong pull for the Fabia vRS yet....

I think given the choice and the £, I'd actually go for the Polo. The Fabia is too much like a box on wheels if you know what I mean whereas the Polo has a bit of flair. Glad to see both are in DSG though and not of the manual variety.

There will however, be no manual version as of yet...

You could argue the polo gti interior looks better than the vRS's, but it doesn't look as sporty.

As for the SEAT, I don't think it looks a patch on either of them!

I do think though, the vRS looks more sporty in certain colour combos and naff in others. ( having looked at recent pictures and videos ) :)

Good - White ,black wheels and black roof.

Green, black wheels and roof.

Silver, black/silver wheels and black roof.

Blue ,black/silver wheels and black roof ( my preferred choice if available! )

Black, black/silver wheels ( my present choice )

Bad - Blue, silver roof

Black, white roof

Yes, I agree totally with this analysis - the AE review is full of a lot of contradictions, and it would appear that the reviewer couldn't actually get passed the Skoda badge...

I got sent the Skoda pre-release leaflet for this car the other day, and I must admit my first reaction was 'I want one'. Accelleration is just about as fast as my Octy vRS (and so what if top speed is a bit lower when we don't have autobahns, 140mph is enough for the uk!), fuel economy is v good, the DSG as standard is great and I think it looks fine. That said, I'll probably stick with the Octy vRS simply because I like the space so it's a bit more children friendly, but I think I'll be ceratinly booking a test drive for the Fabia vRS, apart from anything else it looks good fun to drive and despite broadly similar acceleration to the Octy I'm expecting that being a smaller car it will actually subjectively feel faster :)

I agree, i would also include

Green, white roof, white wheels

However I would have a all race blue car, not sure about wheel colour.

I also agree, White car with black roof looks a lot better that a Black car with white roof.

Yes, green body and white roof/wheels good, but I'm getting on a bit now, so not for me!

Absolutely right about the white car black roof looking better than the other way around..............in fact, if I don't want to pay extra for metallic paint ,

I could go for that combination :)

I want the new style VRS badge for mines :)

I want a new Fabia VRS tbh, but i don't want DSG, automatics are so boring to drive even with paddles etc i'd still not enjoy driving it as much as i would a manual
