Another screen bites the dust

Featured Replies

On our way to Cleethorpes on Friday and the screen goes :(

Trying not to read too much into this given that TP has also had one go. Never happened to me before and the area of impact was minute. You can feel the chip but not really see it.

It's being replaced on Thursday.

TP- I'll see if I can see the two dash screws you mention in your post.

Bad luck Simon, lets hope we dont all suffer with this :'(

I have a small nick in my screen, but I am getting is sealed. Dont want some kid messing with my SM.....

Wish I could of had it sealed. It turned into a 6inch crack as soon as it hit.

Point of impact was very near the bottom of the screen. A weak point perhaps?

Hi Simon,

emoticon-0106-crying.gif to hear you have a broken screen as well; think that's now 4 or maybe 5 SMOC members that have needed new screens so far. Must be the more upright angle and possible sitting that little bit higher. Mine was hit near the mirror mount, thought nothing of it as it did not crack or star in any way. Failed while parked up at work later that day. emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

Who are you getting to fix your screen by the way? Autoglass did mine through the insures; appear to have done a good job overall, considering this was his first Monster repair. Only thing I've had to tinker with was aligning the wipers with the marks on the glass and slightly adjust the right 'A' pillar trim.

Thanks for offering to look at those two fixings; be interesting to know if there both screwed down on yours.

Anyway I hope all goes well for Thursday.

Regards,

TP

Mines also being done by Autoglass under insurance. Good to hear they do a decent job. As for tinkering, not one of my strong points so they'll be back out if it's not right!!

Well screen replaced - first one the Tipton branch had done - and everything seems fine. Thanks to TP as his post enabled me to tell the fitter how all the covers came off

Went for a test drive and there were no creaks or groans from the new screen.

Thanks

Simon,

Don't give octy888 any ideas about lobbing stomes at windscreens :o just to get rid of rattles :giggle:

seriously - pleased to hear all sorted and everyone so far very pleased with autoglass  Lets hope we won't have to call them out on the Yeti Welsh Adventure tomorrow

best wishes

Having covered about 1000 miles this week in France, I picked up a stone chip somewhere between the Ferry and Oxford last night.

Went out to empty out the stuff this morning to find a foot long crack behind the mirror on the windscreen :-(

So phoned Autoglass, the soonest they could fit mine was the 15th of June.

Apart from that, the new Yeti behaved very well!

Ive never heard of this many windscreen problems on a new car, is this a Skoda problem ? I know a lot of folk go on about the design but a lot of other 4x4's with similar shaped fronts dont seem to have this problem ?

If only it was that simple LOL - at least there would have been an explaination for it. I think it was from the opposite carriage way in my case - after having a Honda 'lots of chips' Civic I always *try* and keep a safe distance....

S

Sadly even keeping some distance does not seem to work? In my case a few months ago I was on the M1 and a lorry must have had a brick stuck between it's rear wheels and at some point this let go. I could see it bouncing down the road but was unable to change lanes. It exploded some short distance in front of me and the car was hit by lots of bits. I managed to get away with a screen chip that was repairable - and chips on the front end.

i have had a nasty thought, is the panoramic job an "all in one"??

How much is one of those going to cost to replace!!??

More than a few bob I would think and some insurers don't cover sunroofs I believe :(

TP

plus the wait time???

Let's not think about that

Perhaps Skoda are fitting thinner glass in the Yetis? I've read that MINI's have thinner glass than other cars and suffer more cracked windscreens too.

My 4 year old Octy has had 2 chips in the windscreen, but neither has developed into a crack yet (fingers crossed).

Chris

Can I claim the prize for the quickest replacement screen. Piicked up my SM from the dealer this afternoon - petrol tanker on the motorway home threw up a stone and caught me dead centre. The crack is now spreading nicely.

Autoglass coming out tomorrow.

Now which insurance do I claim off - Skoda 7day free one or the one I have transferred from my old car? Both have same excess for glass.

Very pleased with my choice of 1.2SE DSG. Getting over 35mpg so far. I have had a VW Tiguan on hire for a couple of days and the SM is so much better for £10k less. I was really worried I had made the wrong choice based on on the VW.

Hi DD,

glad to hear you like your new monster but emoticon-0106-crying.gif that a new screen is needed in the same day.

Would claim of the 7 day myself; may as well not trouble your own insurer so soon.

TP

As noted previously - I needed a new screen following a stone chip a week after I got my Yeti

Autoglass fitted the new screen this Tuesday

Had to travel to Basildon and back on Wed and got hit by another stone (dont you just love the road works on the M25) - so Autoglass are coming back again on Monday.

Hopefuly to fill it, but it may have cracked by then so could be screen number 2 in a week :-(

Rog

Now that's NOT good news

crikey, ..more screens cracking than yeti's seen lol....glad mines delayed, means i get the new yr11 screen( extra tough with mad max grills)..lol :giggle:

Sounds like this might be a good idea if the the screens keep poping the way they are??? :giggle:

I do wonder if this is a high rate of breakages or just the norm for today's road surfaces?
