:punch: ive been looking through my service book when the cambelt would be due on my 06 fabia vrs.it says 120,000 km which is 75,000m ish.im nowhere near this mileage but some people are saying it needs doing at 60,000.i know if you dont reach that mileage you should still change 4-5 years.at what stage have everyone else being changing?

I'm getting mine done on Thursday. Just ticked over to 59k miles and a 55 plate.

Mines on 66k miles. getting it booking in this month though.

mines only done forty thou but still had it done because its four years old 56 plate its better to be safe than sorry seen what happens when they let go let me tell you its not good

dont know dealers did it has part of deal when buying it along with discs and pads allround service mot and years tax tank of juice etc

around 60k -70k best to get it done jsut to be safe, alot cheaper than if it fails. always best to get the full cambelt kit (tensioner and pulley) and the water pump, only takes 10mins extra with the belt already off. the original water pump has plastic fins which are prone to break off and engine overheats, the new ones are metal :thumbup:

takes about 2/3hours on a fabia vrs for cambelt , water pump and tensioners. cost me £100 but i done it myself lol

Getting mine done on Saturday. It's on 40k miles and is a 54 plate. I do rack up the miles so gotta get it done. Tensioner, pulley and new water pump also.

Is it recommended to also change the coolant when water pump and timing belt is done?

skoda did this for me a couple of years back(although it didnt really need changing) Not sure if it is the norm to change at same time?

Yep getting the full lot done along with the 60k service. £570 at a Skoda dealer which seemed reasonable looking at what other people have paid.

Surely as soon as you disconnect the waterpump, all the coolant comes out anyway? What with gravity and all that.

Yes the coolant came out of mine when the water pump was removed. Mine had fresh new coolant in after.

I had the cambelt and water pump done on Sunday. Mine is a 55 plate with 52k on the clock.

My vRS is a 56-plate and had 43K and i had it done :) :p

Mines an 06 with 23k miles on the clock.

I'm booked in at a local independant to get cambelt, water pump, aux belt, brake fluid, coolant and oil change. I've sourced all the bits my self, about £175 for the parts.

Hopefully it will be cheaper than the £750 the dealers wanted to charge!

My 2005 Fabia VRS now just over 46,500 miles, but is 5 years old.

Renewed G12 antifreeze + new water-pump (as a precaution) old one OK.

Both belts replaced as never replaced alternator before.

that was a good price!

I've been given a price of £308+VAT for cambelt kit and waterpump to be changed which doesnt seem too bad. Mines an 06 on 43k and is being changed very soon.

jst had mine done yesterday there 04 way 60k £325 happy way that price after seein what some have paid :)

If you have engine mods or a remap you should change it earlier than 60k imo

Cambelt due either 60k or 5 years. Had mine done this year as 5 years old (only 38k).

Def worth getting the water pump done too, though not all replacements have metal fins from what I was told by various different garages. There is a company who buys in bulk from VAG, replaces the plastic with metal fins then resells them. Some garages use them, some don't. Mine didn't, but what they did use is a genuine VAG part (not one which has been modded and then resold with their own warranty). Entirely up to you which you prefer.

The kit includes the belt and tensioner IIRC, then add the cost of water pump and new antifreeze on top.

A good VAG indy would be your best bet, mine did me a deal on cambelt, waterpump/AF, Service and MOT, about £470 the lot.

Been informed its 4 years or 80k miles on the new belts now... had mine done last month. 06 plate with 36k miles.

Better safe than sorry!

I got a quote yesterday from my local vag specialist for cambelt and waterpump and they quoted me £315 inc vat which I though was pretty good, probs cheaper than dealer anyways :D

I havn't been able to shift my vRS, and I'm assuming it because of the cambelt not having been done.

Had a look around and AmD quote around £300 for the job. Would that put anyone off of purchasing a car just because its not a Skoda dealer?
