Suspension groan - caused by strutbrace!?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Fitted the Seat upper front strut brace last week and am now noticing a creak/groan which sounds to be coming from the front  . I'm detecting it mostly under deceleration at low speed and I'm pretty sure its not the brakes. Could this be caused by the brace? I cant see how I could have fitted it incorrectly although it was a very tight fit, the holes not exactly lining up :( and I didn't use a torque wrench to tighten to 25Nm.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Stephen

Take it off and see if the noise goes away.

Its not a juddering noise is it? The classic noise of the airbox "roof" vibrating on the strut brace? It happened with mine when I was at low speeds (when engine is quieter and noise more obvious) A bit of foam wedged in there soon cured it for me.

Didnt realise it was such a tight fit, got mine as an X-Mas present but am a bit concerned about fitting it if it's going to be a really tight fit.

If ColinG can fit one anyone can

If ColinG can fit one anyone can

:P

to second what ross said in some ways if I can fit one then anyone can. There is more noise now than before but nothing I cant live with (used to creaks and rattles as I have been peugeot/citroen owner for years)

Apologies I have seen the thread many times before but now that I want it I can't find it.

It was the one that gave the actual Seat part number for the upper strut. Anyone know what number that was and what sort of time do you have to wait for it.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure its not a vibrating air box but I'll check tomorrow.

Not too keen to take it off, but it might be the only way to tell.

I'm not too fussed about the noise as I can only hear it at low speed, its more the fact of whether its causing any damage or its unsafe?

Cheers for the replies.
