Fast car..don't think so

Featured Replies

Heck' date=' even my lard-a** 1.6 managed to keep up with Q, Nick and miscellaneous assorted Octy vRS'. And they didn't even know I was following them, so weren't waiting for me or anything.

And my car *is* a slow piece of crap... :D

As for going downhill, well look at who threw the Fabia into the mix...say no more ;)

What did I say??

;)

I'd rather be seen in a...er...smart... :P

Rob.

Needs a nice clear Autobahn or a track. :)

There's too many variables in any car comparison and the driver skill will make a lot of difference. Most fair comparison would be to use the same driver and time/plot them driving each car round a track they know well. Not perfect in the eyes of science, but probably a good compromise.....

Anyone want to ask Sabine nicely? ;)

Chris

I think the wildest car I had was the Rover 400 Turbo (200bhp) as it was blinding in a straight line (which was hard as it torque steered like a drunken shopping trolley) and actually handled OK too!

HaHa I had one of those, actually mine was a 220GSi T hatch - it blew 2 gearboxes to pieces in 30,000 miles...

Actually i dont know what i was thinking when i had my Nova SR .Was nearly new at the time. Like the GTI I just presumed the SR lettering on the rear and sides meant something special.wrong.it was shopping car :)

Road driving isn't a true comparison of a car's performance.

Too many variables...traffic' date=' road conditions etc.

Sorry, but that's garbage. Particularly if you actually drive your car on the road occasionally.

An F1 car is awesome on a race track, and not too bad on a drag strip. But it would be horrible to drive on the road.

If a car is going to be good on the road, it'll be compromised on a track, and vice versa.

You'd be better off buying a nice, economical Fabia vRS for road driving, and with all the money you save, buying a decent track day car...

Can't disagree with you on that one. Although insert*Octavia* for the *F* word.... :D

I see William's twin troll has entered the fray

BMW 330ci.. 231bhp of pure boredom... and an autobox that really didn't want to play.

Track vs road, especially the most "untrack like" road like a wet country poorly surfaced road, you need different tools. The red baron was far quicker than it had any right to be on track, considering it's humble beginnings, but I found it a pain on the road... Likewise I love my 4x4 cross country, but it's too soft for track use.

(although granted that had just had brand new pads at the rear, and they were not biting much!! :D)

Cinquecento Sporting 1.1 i,

Handled ok, but often passed by milkmen,

oh, hang on......"fast car" you say? Doh!

:ashamed:

Blimey quite a bit of rivalry between us furby vRS owners and the octy vRS isnt there? Didnt realise, i personally love both but to compare the cars i think is a bit wrong as there two completely different cars. lol But was fun to read the chatroom fights emerging haha!

How on earth did you decide to bump a thread from 2004? :o

pmsl @ some names from the past in this thread!!! Bring back William!!!!!!!

Have driven things like the old Jag XJ's and alghough they were pretty effortless at getting moving when you really wanted to go they just seem to rev away pointlessy! lol (I think that was the 3.8 V8 btw)

Now, Nelly... That is a different matter all together! hehe

Peugot 405 Mi16

Had corpion exhaust - only sporty thing about it. Must have been only firing on 3 cylinders though as most normal cars were not easily dispatched.

Me too. Handled like a pig on skates. Ocean yacht racing would've been cheaper.

Late 70s early 80s Ford Mustang with all the emissions gear on it. An absolute disgrace to the name:D

V@*xh@11 C0r$@ "DMerit" - a car with no redeeming features whatsoever, except that it kept the rain off and was slightly faster than walking.

My mates MG TF 160. Totally gutless engine and it made me look even more gay than normal.:(

Audi TT 225, not as quick as I was expecting :thumbdwn:

SWMBO's vRS TDI feels quicker.

Just thought about this on the way to work again this morning and cast my mind back to when I test drove an Octy vRS for the first time. I was selling my Nissan 200sx s14 and remember being totally underwhelmed by the Octy. The salesman seemed to think that I should have been impressed - I was by the boot and price, but not the speed.

I have since come to appreciate the car as a good all rounder, but not as quick as some would have you believe.

The worst 'fast' car I've come across recently was the 2.0l MkIV Golf GTi - only 115bhp, felt like I could get out and push it faster.

missed the point? you wouldn't go into that thinking it's a fast car

and why do you always write Vauxhall like that? it basically puts you in the same group as people who write M$ or Windoze etc...:thumbdwn:
