Fast car..don't think so

Featured Replies

The worst 'fast' car I've come across recently was the 2.0l MkIV Golf GTi - only 115bhp, felt like I could get out and push it faster.

that engine should have never gone into the gti, shocking engine that one.

That 115 BHP was only badged a GTi in the UK, at the behest of the marketing people at VAG. In the rest of Europe it was badged as Golf 2.0

I could leave them behind in my old 1.3 Metro.

Yeah that one always puzzled me a bit too. A car bearing a GTI badge which takes over 10 seconds to get to 60mph isn't good . . .

why they bothered i don't know as the 1.8t was available from day one and the price difference wasn't great, about 1k i think.

pmsl @ some names from the past in this thread!!! Bring back William!!!!!!!

Any Mk4 Golf GTi for me. Very disappointing. Felt very clunky and not very exciting at all and should have handled much better out of the box. The low point of the GTi marque for VW IMHO.

Escort GTi. The right pedal just made more noise, not any difference to the rate of travel. The best thing was the very supportive seats that made it easier to go round corners without slowing down.:D

most unfast fast car i have ever experieced has to be .....

Peugeot 206 GTi

Totally agree worse car I ever had the misfortune to own. Thank fully it got written off by someone driving up the back of me a 25mph and I got the chance to buy the Octy!

mk 2 octy vrs for me,wake me up when its finnihed......yawn........

missed the point? you wouldn't go into that thinking it's a fast car

I went into it thinking that it must have some redeeming feature beyond being watertight! And I usually approach small cars thinking that they will "feel fast" on a quiet single carriageway; it failed to even do that.

and why do you always write Vauxhall like that? it basically puts you in the same group as people who write M$ or Windoze etc...:thumbdwn:

Odd you should mention that; I normally do. Which makes me one of a group who don't confuse "fiscally successful" with "actually being any sort of good". ;)

Possibly as a "GLi", or was that our "mk3 GTi" in the rest of Europe?

or not...

BMW Z3, unless you had the 3.0 engine in it. Woefully underpowered for a "sports" car. The Z4 was a partial improvement, but the 3.0 is still pick of the bunch.
