Remap reliability?

Featured Replies

is there any reliability isues with a remapped vrs fabia? how do they cope gearbox wise and cluches etc??

Clutch will die, you'll probably need an uprated replacement when it does.

I think it will most likey wear things out quicker ie the clutch. But if your easy on the car then it should be ok.

Best asking Colin or ross maybe?

As above, the clutch will handle up to 400Nm (295lb.ft). Anything after that then I would start thinking about uprating it.

Everthing else seems to cope alright.

Some guys on seatcupra.net have experienced clutch slippage at around the 280-290 lb ft mark. That seems to be the absolute limit.

One guy suggested getting a custom map where the torque was limited until the higher revs, i.e. no more than about 270 at < 2200 rpm or something like that...

hmm that's an interesting idea, I'm getting mine tuned in January by Jabba, I will have a chat to them and see what they think about it, to be honest every day I will not be using all 190bhp or 300+ of torque but it's good to know it's there if I should want it!! ;)

My PD100 TDI clutch is coping ok with 280 lb/ft

Blew a MAF pretty quickly after being Jabba'd though.

Might be the same clutch?

Jabba do limit the torque to help preserve the clutches!! The 5 speed can be uprated to a G60 by also changing the flywheel, but at present imho there is no upgrade for the 6 speed box.

Mine has done just over 20,000 trouble free miles since remapping. The MAF started to play up, but a quick clean and it's back to normal again.

I'm sure Ross will be along to correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he is still on the origional clutch too. ;)

Ross and I are also still on the original clutch... we both have occasional slippage.. (occasional means very occasonal... once every couple of months)

ive got 310lb/ft and have had revo for 10k now (32k on the clock)

Map limited mine to around 445nm iirc. I havent had any slippage yet although the dual mass flywheel makes a funny rumbling noise sometimes.

I think if your'e careful and dont abuse the torque/clutch then that has a lot to do with it.

My car sometimes makes a strange rumbling noise if I ask a lot of the car at lower revs (around 2k)...

Thing is, it did it as standard too...

I thought it might be the exhaust, but you're worrying me now with talk of dual mass flywheels!!!

I get the rumbling noise when pulling at low revs, which is why I now keep it at around 2k most of the time. The dual mass will be going though when the clutch finally screams enough. :D

Well, if you will modify your cars

Strangely enough, my SDI has developed a really bad vibration (especially in top) at about 1800 - 2100rpm @ WOT. Above 2100 I can give it full welly (such as it is ;) ) with no worries. Any ideas?

Oh and if its the clutch, it'll be my second replacement, only this time I'm going for the OTT solution :D

:rofl: You must be getting sub-standard clutches for your car to knacker them! ;)

I need to get out and see just what this SDi can do. That spin at the handling day was good, but obviously wasn't powerful enough as you just couldn't get those tyres to smoke.

Second replacement! Must be a healthy sdi then ;)

I try to behave (honest!) and not use WOT at too low rpm in 4th,5th & 6th gears - so i tell myself i'm not asking too much of the drivetrain.

Plus it only made the noise after the remap (also did it with the tunit fitted too) didnt get the noise as before this.

Wot does WOT mean?

:D

(seriously though)

Wide Open Throttle, ie full throttle.

Have a feeling it may not be the clutch, possibly driveshafts or engine mounts. Just a tad bemused.

Oh and it is fairly healthy for an SDI - power now 74bhp, up from the standard 68 :D

;)
