electric folding mirrors... not on my vrs?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone on this vast forum has wanted electric folding mirrors on their octavia vrs when ordering extras, they come as standard on the laurin & clement dont understand why not.

they would have been a bonus as i will only have 40mm clearance either side of my drive and would have given me a bit less of a twitchy bum when driving down, i know i can push them in manually but i dont want to be man handling them all the time, cheers

The reason why electric power folding mirrors are not provided for the Vrs, either as standard or as a stand alone option, is solely because Skoda UK, in their infinite wisdom, chose not to do so.

End of story.

My one year old 1.4TSi Elegance came with power fold mirrors as standard. Also a full sized matching alloy spare wheel.

Ah, those good old days!

The Fiesta ones are better as you can fold them on on the move which is useful in country lanes, on the Octavia you have to stop to fold them in.

Really, it isn't if you are putting a convertible top down . That is why i liked them on the Lexus move in on the move

Surely this isnt a hard retrofit? Can you not just buy the L&K mirrors and wire them up asuming the loom is there?

.... asuming the loom is there?

And there is the snag. My understanding is that the loom for the L&K. S, VRS etc. are all custom for the car/options. Reduces cost and weight.

even so it cant be much of a loom what will they need? power + & - and some sort of control cable.

anyone got folding mirrors fancy taking a few pics for me?

Can you get them in Ireland or Australia on the VRS/RS? If they are available in any RHD market then I reckon it should be easy to retro fit

No not on the irish ones either :S

Edit:

Just had a look on the aussie brochure no mention of em either

Pretty stupid from Skoda UK to exclude the folding mirrors on such a car.

I had 3 options for my Scout:

Electrically adjustable, heated, with memory and foldable exterior mirrors (PW6) - 100 quid

Electrically adj. heated and fold. door mirrors with auto dimm. and mem. funct. (PW4) 200 quid

Electric. adj. heated and fold. door mirrors with auto dimm. and with Boarding-Spots (PW3) 190 (one i choose as memory comes from electrical seats)

VRs had same options.

even so it cant be much of a loom what will they need? power + & - and some sort of control cable.

It's not a small job unfortunately (if you want to use OEM parts to retrofit), there are 3x looms to replace, one in each door (door cards off, disconnect speakers, e/w's etc.) and one running through centre console and dash, that one's the big one and requires lifting the carpets and seats out.

I've ruled out an OEM retrofit for myself. My only option left is a hacked retrofit, make my own connections from the folding mirrors to the canbus controller / fusebox, but i haven't explored that idea very far yet.

Skoda Australia does NOT provide "folding mirrors" as an option here either!!!

sux i tell ya.

Hmm look here: My link

Folding power mirrors are fitted in the factory and are part of the core of the CAN bus electrical system,

and are not engineered to be retro-fitted.

Perhaps this is intentional !!!

This is not an area where the manufacturer wants spark and flash armatures messing.

Not in Australia either.

They were on the pre FL models but disappeared somewhere in the update.

They are standard on NZ vRS models (spec sheet here) so the ONLY reason they are not available anywhere is a marketing decision by Skoda in that country.

Maybe they'll be standard or an option on the 2011 Facelift of the Facelift model!! ;)
