My Octy vs Focus ST

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Interesting conversation in the office - one of the lads has a standard 08 plate Focus ST and still seems to think that he will beat my Sharked Octy in a race!

I have absolutely rinsed one through 2nd and 3rd gear not only last week!

Anyone had similar experiences they would care to share so I can shut this guy up?

I think you will have to settle it with a wresting competition or ruler TBH.

Haha, he's one of the types who has just got his first taste of something quick and thinks it can beat anything :giggle:

Depends what the race is (and how good the drivers are)... The ST handles better than a standard Octy vRS, so you may have a straight line advantage but if the driver of the ST is any good chances are on a twisty road the ST will pull away...

Where do you go racing? Sounds like fun, especially if there are plenty of kids about :wonder:

Yeah pretty much what I thought, although I have faith in my driving abilities :giggle: and the octys extremely competent handling on B roads!

I found the focus to feel very front end heavy when I drove one, don't know if that was just my opinion. The best FWD hot hatch (handling wise) I thought was the Renault sport Megane 230 with the cup chassis pack, but the downside.... its French

why oh why do we always have pointless "my cars better than your........." threads? :D

Yeah its a bit of a laugh winding each other up about things like this, but the only REAL and SAFEST way is on the track. Get it done then have the bragging rights

Haha I'm not really bothered if he did beat me to be honest, all the argument is about is because he has this ST he has just bought and everyone else just have Golf 2.0 Tdi's etc so he thought he wud try and pick on my rubbish Skoda

Like I said he is obviously under the opinion he is Lewis Hamilton and his ST will beat anything!

it gets even better when you chase cars 25bhp + over the vrs :p

WRX and Megans 225 lol

/\ true true

My oval badge is more oval than your round badge :p :D

tell him you'd be more impressed if it was something worth bragging about i.e. Lambo, Bugatti, Swedish car that i cant spell, Aston, Porsche, BMW etc etc etc ;)

You mean a Koenigsegggggggggg as Top gear put it lmao!

Fix Or Repair Daily

i like the focus it handles really well and has loads of mid range torque the st is a very nice car and you may have beaten him hands down , but just hope he doesnt get his car remapped!!!!!

then i think you wont !

Having owned one I have to say the focus would edge the vrs on a challenging road, it handles better and has more grunt, stage one or not.

However if it was an endurance race, he'd have to stop for fuel first!

As for front heavy the focus is 62/48 and the skoda is 60/40 so hardly any different

Wouldn't mind finding out which is quickest - an Octy vRS DSG or an ST Powershift (that's DSG to you and me) :giggle:

i would Save the fuel and the embarrassment .

stage 2+ TFSI can keep up with a focus RS from a rolling start in a straightline.

stage 1 TFSI is slightly slower than a remapped ST, but puts the power down better. the ST struggles to cope wit the torque.

stage 2+ TFSI is neigh on identical to the stage 2 ST. the vag engine is more susceptable to tuning

I have got a megane r26 and just about to order a VRS, i'm afraid the megane does handle slightly better and I'd suggest is slightly quicker..... but and its a big but. The skoda feels better built, better fuel economy, bigger, more practical.

Its like anything... depends what you want.... what is ultimately quicker is actually pointless unless you are going on track days... i know i havent even been close to what my megane can do and I'm sure the octy will be the same.

Sorry maybe i just got my sensible (new dad) head on at the min.

although as an aside the 5 cylinder st engine does sound awesome, while its returning 20 MPG

ive just sold my vRS, and am looking at a R26 as a replacment. i do alot of trackdays so want a more focused car. i think with one stag 2 modded upto the 270hp region it could be a pretty potent tool

Have you driven an RS? Its an utter animal

Amazing that you've driven all those cars in those states of tune. And shock horror a tuned tfsi keeps up with a standard RS ( in a straight line from a rolling start )

The RS and the ST chassis are way way ahead of even a modded vrs platform

The VRS isnt aimed at the same things a ST or RS is so theres no point comparing. either of those in the same state of tune whups a VRS in the same state of tune and has a better handling chassis.

The VRS is a great family car, with a huge boot, superb ride and a good turn of pace with fuel consupmtion the ford can only dream of.

If you can live with the plastic windows and you love trackdays, the R26R is amazing, thats an awesome car. I couldnt live with it day to day, but for a weekend warrior I dont think there is a better hatch

Looking to sell mine if interested. I'm on holiday next week but can get some pictures for you when i back. Its a 57 black r26 with xenons, 24k miles. full service history.

Never been tracked but it is a awesome car. The mechanical LSD really makes it handle.

i have a long long list of cars im going through. Im not really in a huge rush. I can use the wifes car when ever i want, so im olding out till im 100% on what i want.

im tempted to get a mini cooper S JCW. had a cooper S clubman couple years back and loved it. so the extra oomph f the JCW pack should make it way better
