Number Plates

Featured Replies

I have a number plate on retention so i'm getting it allocated to the car and some new plates made up. It doesnt spell a word or a name so looks like a normal plate but I was thinking of getting a euro style pressed plate........anyone else done it? Totally out of character for me and I probably wont but wondered if anyone else had and what it would look like.

Ta muchly

I've got pressed metal plates on my car. Totally road legal.

I think they look quite smart, and will hopefully last better than crappy Halfords ones!

You can get them from Dubmeister directly, or various distrubutors around the country.

I'll get some pics tomorrow if you like.

I assume the pressed metal plates use the same font as the traditional plastic plates and are also reflective?

I'm sure I remember a similar thread not so long ago that was completely divided as to whether they were actually road legal or not?

Yeah same font and reflective. They have all the relevant BS markings etc and are advertised as being road legal.

I can do you up a pair if you wish. I supply them.

What sort of price for a pair?

What sort of price for a pair?

29 euro per pair delivered to UK which is about £24. That is for pressed metal plates.

As far as I know Dubmeister are the only people who supply UK road legal pressed plates.

I didnt know that, I best not get any as my wife couldnt cope with my penis being even bigger. :giggle:

If thats "per plate" then i'll definintely get some!

The wifes just ordered 2 sets

not certain how legal they are i thought plates had to be plastic. i will check the legal data base when i'm in work tomorrow

They actually give 5bhp per plate, and 1/2 an inch in penis extension per character on the plate (strange I know!). Unfortunately as my plate is a bit short I'm still not even averagely endowed. :'(

Other (less interesting) benefits are that they look quite smart (matter of opinion) and should last better than crappy plastic ones which delaminate.

AFAIK they're perfectly road legal - they are reflective, they have all the correct markings, and I believe on request Dubmeister will supply a document that states their legality.

Pressed are not legal and hence only for show use, anyone offering to make up road plates without asking for the correct documentation is either selling you no legals or is breaking the law.

+ 1 - They aren't legal I'm afraid - however I'd be happy wearing a set and I'd be happy in the knowledge that no theiving so and so could steal them and barstewardise them as you can do with the sticky back plastic ones. It's about time this country cottoned on to the metal plate idea - far more secure

Unlucky blade, having been in touch with dubmeister today ( who by the way request documents :p ) I can confirm they are legal.

See below

Our plates have been developed with a large plate manufacturer that supplies for example official Netherlands plates and serves other countries and manufactures to many differing standards world wide.. They don't have to be tested by BSI, just be designed to comply, and actually comply if tested, and this is what we have done.

The BSAU 145d regulation has been finely gone through by our manufacturer and relevant sections have be exceeded or met, including a section specifically designed to exclude metal plates, which necessitated a subtle exclusive redesign of the metal base plate and different material to 'regular' Euro show plates, as well as altered letter tooling and lastly permanent laser marking of supplier info and maker info and the standard they are made to.

They have been fully tested by our manufacturer and pre tested against the BS145d standard by the German DIN institute – (in case any major flaws we hadn’t picked up on), who have set up testing environments for BSAU145d now, are testing and will award a certificate to this effect on completion.

We are fully satisfied they comply or exceed BSAU145d and have been told by a British Standards institute they can be marked as such if we are sure they comply by cross referencing DIN regs that duplicate/exceed sections of BS145d and amendments we have made, and they offered additional help if we needed, which we don't.

No UK authority has the knowledge or means to test plates other than British Standard Institute. No Police or local authority can challenge a user as they are marked correctly as to comply, and that’s the end of it as far as prosecution of the user.

If they want to test them they would have to send off to BSI and pay the £6000 to £15,000 fee...and result would be they pass anyway.

Our dealers/suppliers take proper relevant driver/vehicle ID which is a major part of plates being legal, correct lettering and physical plate spec alone is not sufficient as prevention of vehicle cloning is probably the main issue in 'illegal' plates and prosecutions.

So, we welcome any test to disprove our claim, which is that they do 100% fully comply when supplied by a DVLA registered licence plate supplier.

Pressed Plates on eBay Would we say these are legal? Says they are, and that the BS numbers are all there etc. Opinions? Based on the fact that the Dubmeister ones are legal?

name and address inc postal code of company that made plate is required in UK still though???

I have pressed plates on mine, with euro branding, got them on a certain auction site, and paperwork aside they are spot on, correct font, reflective, got the various markings etc and have never had a problem with the police etc.

Personally I just like the look of them, nothing to do with wanting to look 'chav' or anything, I just like the look and they tend to last longer than platsic ones, I had them on the car from day one and no issues.

Our local council have them on there work vans etc as well.

Its a personal taste in my view.

I got nicked a couple of years ago for having pressed metal plates. To be fair they were not the correct font - German style but not >that< far off the legal font - certainly not anywhere near as bad as some of the chavster Clio ones you see. As she was writing the ticket a UK 911 went past with the same plates and she said "I'll be speaking with him tomorrow"!

I need to replace my ones because the dopy dealers drilled through them and of course moisture has got into the layers however I'll be getting plastic plates again and certainly not from Fleabay - the boys in blue are wise to the regs because they use them all the time to nick scroats in Halfrauds car parks at 11:00pm on Saturday nights so be warned!

It ain't worth the £60 fine to be honest.......

As for Dubmeister - are they prepared to support you you wish to contest a ticket?

I got the usual plastic ones from Halfords but with the 'carbon fibre' lettering, they look good - although you need to be up close and personal to notice the carbon look - and that don't happen much

Elite Car Care do legal pressed plates. I've got some and my traffic cop father-in-law has confirmed they are fully legal. Elite require all the relevent documentation prior to the plates being made.
