Oer, what have I started... lol

I think the correct name for it is the expansion tank, not the reserve tank but it's the only word I could think of when first posting :) I was tired ;)

For anyone who doesnt know what I'm talking about, next time you're filling up look for a little clip type thing inside the hole for the petrol pump, on the right side. Use the pump nozzle to put this clip back and then fill up.

After doing this last night, I had a 60 mile trip today and the car is still telling me that the fuel tank is full.

I did this today and got a bit more in, but had to fart about and pull the catch several times to get another 5 litres (maybe) in. Seems a bit pointless unless you know you've got a really long journey to do without convenient fill-up points...

Last time I filled up - I vented the tank and managed to get 180 miles without the gauge moving :P

I always vent the tank - it's the wife's car and I'm in charge of fuel

...gives me an extra week between fill ups

60 miles ain't going to make a difference - we're on about probably one of if not the most fuel efficient car on the market.

I've done 170 mile trip from Oldham to Oxford on an eighth of a tank of diesel.. it took until around Birmingham before the needle on the fuel guage had dropped down a little. I've never messed around with any expansion tank and my typical range on my fabia is about 675miles (on 45 litres of diesel), that would probably increase if I was one long journey and didn't have to do 24 mile round trips to work monday to friday.

nah - i stick to 70mph mate ;)

Regards,

right i just filled up and managed to get 30 litres in before i gave up this wasnt from empty but the dial was sat slightly over half way line and it said i had about 200 miles left so i dunno how much is in my tank but we shall see how far we get lol

My experience of fuel gauges is that they don't seem to be accurate - the second half of the tank seems to drop like a stone...
